MY DREAM FOR OUR COMMUNITY |
Amberley Village Human Rights Commission (HRC) will head up an entry for this year's "Under One Roof" art exhibit at the JCC, which celebrates the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Sukkot is a celebration of thanksgiving for the fall harvest and commemorates the 40 years of the Israelites wandering in the desert after Sinai.
This year's theme is Dream, and the exhibit will be on display at the Mayerson JCC courtyard from October 1 - 12, 2023.
The HRC will have the materials for this community-wide collaboration available at the August 20 Ice Cream Social, and invites residents and neighbors to share their dream for our community. Each of the leaves in the art project will represent a dream for our community, and will be added to the display before submission. Be sure and stop by the HRC booth to participate in this collaborative effort!

Solicitation Policy in Amberley Village
|
Did you know that solicitors are required to register with the Village? Dispatch keeps a current Do Not Solicit list of residents who do not wish to be contacted in person at home, which is given to registered solicitors before they head out into the Village.
The Amberley Village Police Department currently has no registered solicitors on file. As a matter of fact, none have registered since 2020! This means solicitors are out in the Village without permits. Please contact the Police Department if you encounter solicitors by calling 513-531-2040.

Village Cost Savings: Recent Grants
Amberley Village was recently awarded grant dollars to provide for improvements to the Amberley Village ballfields. These funds have been used to increase the height of the fencing around the fields to provide better protection for players, spectators and coaches, as well as for visitors to the Walking Track.
Amberley Green Prairie Garden
The proposed Amberley Green Prairie Garden will be situated along the tree line just west of the Community Garden. (Click here to enlarge)
Amberley Village has received a $15,000 grant from Hamilton County Public Health to install a Prairie Garden at Amberley Green. This will involve the reclamation of a portion of the Green to cultivate a native prairie with abundant flowering species that support a robust native pollinator community.
Recommendations also include a prairie trail, as well as four seating areas that could be used for the planting of memorial trees. The Village also submitted a grant application to Duke Energy for additional seating bench areas, planting of shade trees and bottlebrush buckeyes, garbage cans, and installation of educational signs. Duke Energy approved the grant in the amount of $10,000. This is in addition to the $15,000 approved by Hamilton County Public Health.

Five Recent Rumpke Recycling Fires
Caused by Dangerous Items
| |
Rumpke reported five recycling fires in its St. Bernard Recycling Facility during the month of July alone, mostly caused by items that shouldn't have been put in the recycling bin.
Aerosol cans still containing pressure or contents, or those marked as hazardous waste, are among the top culprits.
Lithium-ion batteries and ineligible aerosol cans are also highly flammable on recycling trucks.
Rumpke is asking residents to take extra precautions to ensure safety in recycling bins. According to Rumpke, if a fire were to get out of hand within the recycling facility, recycling could become mostly unavailable in Greater Cincinnati until the facility could be rebuilt.

Rick will be honored with a special recognition at the upcoming Council meeting on August 14, where he will be presented with a plaque and formally recognized for his significant service milestone.
All are invited to attend the recognition, which will be held at the beginning of the meeting held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.

Village Aggregation Update
Village aggregation customers recently received a switch e-mail from Duke Energy. If you are not a current aggregation customer, this does not apply to you. Aggregation status for all current members has not changed unless you chose to opt out. The email you received is the result of a recent overhaul of Duke’s account management system.
Residents will now receive multiple supplier change notifications when an aggregation contract is transferred from one vendor to another. The recent communication from Duke was to confirm that the aggregation contract with Dynegy will end on August 23. If you are an aggregation subscriber, you should expect to see an additional email message from Duke confirming your switch to Energy Harbor, and NO ACTION IS NECESSARY.
This will now be commonplace when our energy aggregation programs switch providers under Duke Energy's new system.
We appreciate your support of our community's aggregation program and remain ready to assist you however possible. Please reach out if you have any further questions.

Property Maintenance Update: Trailers
Amberley Village recently passed Ordinance 2023-6, which clarifies the parameters for permissible storage of utility trailers on residential property. According to the new ordinance, trailers measuring 4' x 8' or less may be stored on residential property provided they are behind or inside a structure, such as a garage or shed.
The ordinance comes in response to the need for clarity regarding the rules which has led to an increase in complaints regarding trailers in driveways and left out in yards. Amberley Village recognizes and appreciates the importance of having the equipment necessary to maintain residential property, and set about simplifying the Code of Ordinances to reflect that. Language for Ordinance 2023-6 was proposed by the Law Committee, and then underwent a public hearing and review by the Planning Commission, which then sent recommendations to Village Council. The ordinance was passed by Council in a unanimous vote on July 10, 2023, and goes into effect on August 24, or 45 days after passage.

Each year, the Hamilton County Conservation District, in conjunction with Great Parks of Hamilton County, hosts a Native Tree and Shrub Sale, which offers a variety of native trees and shrubs at a low cost. Their goal is to reduce the negative effects of stormwater runoff by reducing soil erosion and slowing down the speed of the runoff. Native plants are most effective at achieving these goals because they are adapted ot our local climate, and also provide rich habitat for local wildlife.
Orders can be placed between July 17 and August 25 and picked up on Saturday, September 9 between 9 am and 1 pm at Sharon Woods and Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve. The cost for each 3-gallon container is $25.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.
These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
