We Want to Hear from You!

Do you live in a RRRASOC member community? We want to hear from you!

We provide a lot of programs to the residents of our nine member communities, and over the past 2 years we've been working on a special project focused on improving participation at the recycling drop-off sites in Novi and Southfield.

We've learned that most people recycling at the drop-off sites live in a multi-family residence such as an apartment, condominium, or senior living community. Following an audit of materials put in the recycling bins at the Novi recycling site in 2020, educational information was sent to multi-family residents in the area to help them understand how to properly recycle. We saw a 40% reduction in the amount of unacceptable materials coming from that location!

This year you'll find us at the Southfield recycling drop-off site talking with recyclers and taking surveys. We're also giving community presentations and participating in community events looking to survey more residents. It's not easy to reach everyone, so we're asking for a few minutes of your time to complete our recycling survey. The information you provide in the survey will help us to better understand your recycling habits and how we can better serve you. Your responses and information will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of the project. Thanks in advance for taking part in this important initiative!

Sustainable Summer Activities

Summer ends next month, which means beach days and boating trips may start to come to a close. How have you been spending your summer? Have you been engaging in sustainable summer activities such as biking, hiking, and gardening? Try the following activities before the last day of summer to savor the outdoors before cooler temperatures set in!

Enjoy the weather on your way to work! Biking, walking, and carpooling are greener modes of transportation and can reduce your carbon footprint.

Local, seasonal produce can be bought at farmers markets. Supporting local farmers helps create a circular economy and reduces the environmental impact of transporting food.

Eco-friendly activities and accommodations such as camping and hiking promote the preservation of local and natural ecosystems. Remember to Leave No Trace when camping!

Choose reusable water bottles, bags, containers and cutlery when out and about to reduce plastic pollution. Take recyclable items home to dispose of them properly, if necessary.

Strengthen friendships and foster a sense of community by organizing gatherings with friends and families to share meals. Choose local, sustainable ingredients and remember to save your leftovers!

Nature is beautiful! Take time to reflect on your summer endeavors and show your gratitude by sharing your experiences with others or volunteering for a local clean-up project!
