Ending the Summer with a Bang
Believe it or not, the summer is winding down. School will begin soon, routines will ramp up and the lazy summer days will be behind us. Why not take advantage of these final weeks and plan to enjoy any summer activities that you've neglected? Grab some watermelon, take walks in the evenings while the days are longer or pick up the book you meant to read back in June.

You may also consider taking a last minute vacation. Don't miss the tips we've included in this month's newsletter to help you stay healthy while you travel. Wherever summer's end takes you, make the most of it!

Golden Guidance:
Seven Items to Make Your Vacation Healthier

Pack these handy tools and increase your chances of avoiding accidents and sickness on your next vacation.

1. Small flashlight. Check for bugs in your hotel room, especially where the mattress meets the wall. Dark splotches can mean bedbugs.

2. Seltzer water. If you are traveling to a location that may have any problems with clean water, ask for sparkling water, which is harder to fake than regular bottled water.

3. Ginger oil. The aroma of this oil can help ward off nausea if you are prone to carsickness or airsickness. Another tip: sit over the wing of the plane to experience the least motion.

4. Pool noodle. Cut off a 15-inch segment, and stash it in your bag. Slouching - inevitable on a long plane ride - can lead to low energy and depression, according to one study. Place the noodle at the small of your back to ensure proper posture, says physical therapist Matt Minard.

5. Plastic bag. Slip your hotel remote control into a small plastic bag. It will not interfere with function, and you'll avoid lots of germs.

6. Trail mix. Instead of refueling with junk food, prepare your own snack with nuts, dried fruit and a handful of chocolate chips.

7. Golf ball. Tight calves lead to sore heels. Sit on the ground, stretch out your legs and place a golf ball under any tender points in your calf. Then hook a hand towel around the arch of the foot and gently stretch the calf muscles by pointing and flexing the foot.
