Indie-Life is thrilled to host First Friday West Philly on Friday, August 5th from 5 to 9pm in the studio at 4616 Baltimore Avenue. Indie-Life is going solo (artist) this month with Oluwafemi Olatunji!
Oluwafemi is a rhythmist based in Philadelphia and originally from Lagos, Nigeria. For 15 years, his visual and musical work has spanned deejaying, music production, pen illustration, painting, digital still and video art. He produces experiences with various combinations of sights and sounds.
His music influences are deeply rooted in the cultures of the African diaspora and his deejay sets are an eclectic mix of jazz, funk, reggae, hip-hop, house and afrobeat, among other similar genres. In 2011, he co-founded a music collective named Worldtown, which began as a party for people to celebrate diversity through music. Visually, his drawings, murals and digital art reveal a deep inspiration by Geometry, African culture and Hip-Hop culture. He is interested in how expression through patterns is a form of intelligence.
