Mike Balsamo,
A Message from CEO, Mike Balsamo

BIA Southern California kicked off the New Year on a great note with a number of members taking home awards across a broad spectrum of categories at the 2017 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders' Show (IBS) in Orlando, Florida. The awards, presented by NAHB, were announced at the ceremony held on January 10th and 11th.

Our Chapters also held two amazing post-holiday events. On January 9th, the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) and BIA Riverside Chapter hosted a College Football Game Night at Heroes Restaurant & Brewery, and the BIA Baldy View Chapter held its January Mechanics Lien Seminar (if you missed this seminar BIA Baldy View Chapter has several throughout the year).

This week, on Wednesday, January 25th, our Custom Service Builders Council will be holding a breakfast with Brookfield Southern CA Region President, Adrian Foley, sharing his takeaways from 2016 and trends he sees for our industry in 2017. The Council on Shaping Advancements in Generational Environments (SAGE), formerly known as the 55+ Housing Council, will be holding an Economic & Housing Market Overview at the Radisson in Newport Beach this Thursday, January 26th with CEO John Burns of John Burns Real Estate Consulting sharing his post-election perspective on the impact of demographics.  Please don't miss these incredible opportunities to hear from industry titans in an intimate setting.

BIASC will continue to look forward with opportunities to hear expert economic insight about what to expect in 2017 with BIA Riverside County Chapter's Economic Forecast next Tuesday, January 31st with Dr. James Doti at the Riverside Convention Center; BIA Los Angeles/Ventura County Chapter's Forecast with experts from USC and UCLA at The L.A. Hotel Downtown next Thursday, February 2nd; and BIA Orange County Chapter's OUTLOOK 2017 on February 6th at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.

A closing housekeeping note for our builder members: Please keep an eye out for your annual dues invoice coming this month. We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to serving you!

Meet CBIA'S 2017 Leadership Team

What to Expect in 2017?

What to Expect from BIASC PAC in 2017?

The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. (BIASC) Political Action Committee (PAC) is continuing its efforts in providing effective and impactful political representation for BIASC members. Working closely with our local BIASC Chapters, and our State and National affiliates, the BIASC political team supports candidates and issues that have a direct impact on facilitating business and regulatory environments friendly to the building industry.

Upcoming Events

The annual BIASC PAC Gala will be held in early June at the Richard Nixon Library. Staff is currently working on putting together another national program, to be both entertaining and informative of the new political landscape emerging in 2017.
As the year continues we look forward to providing BIASC members increased opportunities to expand their business bases through ardent political advocacy. For more information, visit the BIASC PAC page on the organization's website here.

What to Expect from BIASC Government Affairs in 2017?

BIASC Regional Government Affairs will again be focused on an aggressive advocacy platform at the regional, state and federal levels.

With a new Administration coming into Washington DC, we can expect changes, hopefully positive on the regulatory front.  BIASC will be going to Washington DC in May to again lobby on behalf of our industry and focusing on the issues most critical to our BIASC membership like; immigration reform/ construction labor shortage; tax reform and protecting the mortgage interest deduction; regulatory burden and its impacts to home affordability in California. Look for a "save the date" for this event soon if you are interested in participating.
