Hello Peterborough Community,

In June, we celebrate National Indigenous History Month, National Indigenous Peoples Day and Pride Month. At BWXT, we are proud to honour and celebrate these important observances. Throughout the month, we will be sharing resources with employees to support continued learning from Indigenous voices and deepen awareness of the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. We also proudly fly the rainbow flag at our facilities as a symbol of our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.

This past month has also been an important (and busy!) one for our team and our communities.

We participated in the CNSC Mid‑Term Review, where many of you shared thoughtful perspectives as intervenors - thank you for your continued engagement and support. We also conducted our 2026 community focus groups that offered a space for open conversation around transparency, safety, and local priorities. In addition, several community events took place across Peterborough highlighting our strong partnerships and meaningful initiatives in our community.

Thank you to all intervenors and community members who participated in the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Mid‑Term Review Meeting of BWXT’s Peterborough and Toronto facilities in May. Your insights on environmental protection, safety, and transparency have been invaluable to the process and will help shape ongoing improvement and monitoring efforts.

Four online focus groups were held in March 2026 to gather community perspectives within a 10 km radius of the Peterborough and Toronto BWXT sites.

Conducted by Abacus Data, these sessions included both residents familiar with BWXT and random community members, totalling 21 participants. Findings emphasize the importance of enhanced communication and transparency regarding nuclear manufacturing and local operations.

Early June, six dedicated BWXT employees along with several volunteers from the community gathered to assist with setup for the Prince of Wales Fun Fair BBQ event.

They helped arrange tables, chairs, tents, and activity stations - ensuring a smooth and festive event for all attendees.

On May 15, BWXT employees across Canada proudly participated in Moose Hide Campaign Day by wearing the signature moose hide pin to show their support against violence towards women and children.

This simple but powerful gesture helps spark conversations, raise awareness, and reinforce our commitment to fostering safe, respectful communities.

BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada (BWXT) has more than 60 years of extensive experience and innovation in the supply of nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU® nuclear power industry. This includes designing and supplying highly reliable equipment to fuel, inspect and refurbish reactors. Our employees assemble CANDU® fuel bundles using natural uranium dioxide ceramic pellets from our Toronto facility and zircaloy tubes from our Arnprior facility. BWXT’s fuel handling and reactor inspection and maintenance tooling and delivery systems, are also designed and manufactured in Peterborough. Our Peterborough and Toronto facilities are licensed by Canada’s nuclear regulator, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Approximately 400 people work at BWXT in Peterborough in high-tech, manufacturing and administrative positions. The fuel bundles assembled by BWXT employees in Peterborough go on to power 1 in 4 homes and businesses across Ontario.
