In The Community

Curve Lake First Nation's Alternate Routes Energy Fair

We were pleased to be invited to participate again at Curve Lake First Nation's Alternate Routes Energy Fair on October 22.

Our team had the opportunity to engage with high school students and community members who were interested in learning more about what we do and the types of career opportunities we offer.

Rotary Club of Peterborough Meeting

On October 27, we were invited to participate at a Rotary Club of Peterborough meeting.

Our team shared an overview presentation with Rotary members, followed by a question-and-answer period. This was a great opportunity to learn more about community questions and concerns.

We look forward to hosting Rotary members for a tour in 2026.

Junior Achievement Volunteer Day

As part of our sponsorship to Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario, we were able to send volunteers to participate in a JA Day at Venture North Peterborough.

Volunteers spent the day with students, helping teams prepare a business, and teaching various lessons about financial literacy.

Community Tour

We recently hosted a public tour at our facility for interested community members. We began the visit with a presentation about BWXT and learned about what specifically our visitors were looking to learn about. After the overview, visitors were brought through for a guided tour of our fuel bundle manufacturing shop and our fuel handling manufacturing shop, seeing our process first-hand.

Future community tours will be held in 2026 and will be shared via email updates like this one. If you would like to be added to our tour list, please reply to this email.

We also have a virtual tour of our fuel bundle manufacturing on our website here!

Community Connect Information Event

On October 23 we hosted an information event in our parking lot on Monaghan Road. Community members were able to engage with our team and learn more about the work we do to support nuclear power and medicine right here in Peterborough.

We will be holding more community events in 2026 and hope to see you there!

Recent Annual Drill

Did you notice emergency vehicles outside of our facility on October 9? Each fall, we hold a drill with local emergency responders to practice our emergency response.

We regularly perform drills to ensure response to an emergency

event is coordinated. All employees are trained on fire prevention measures, emergency situation responses, emergency evacuation routes and their specific responsibilities, and we have a comprehensive emergency response plan in place.

We use multiple tools to communicate drill information to community members in advance, such as mailers, banners, and social media; however, we do not communicate drill dates or times publicly as that would influence employee response, thereby defeating the purpose of the exercise.

For information on a drill or an emergency situation at BWXT, please call 1-855-696-9588 or email questions@bwxt.com.
