Mazel Tov!

Ari McFarland Bar Mitzvah

Ari McFarland, son of Jeremy and Elena McFarland, who was called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on June 21. Ari will be entering eighth grade at Aubry Bend Middle School, where he especially enjoys his Spanish and Math classes. Outside the classroom, Ari stays active playing football and competitive basketball. In his free time, he enjoys riding dirt bikes, swimming and spending time with friends. For his Mitzvah Project, Ari collected non-perishable food items to donate to Jewish Family Services, helping support individuals and families facing food insecurity in the community.

Nathan Saylan Bar Mitzvah

Nathan Saylan, son of Kevin and Marcy Saylan will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on June 28. Nathan is the grandson of Barbara Krigsten and the late Ray Krigsten and Steve and Jacki Saylan of Omaha, Nebraska. He has two older brothers, Zachary and Alex. Nathan will be a 7th grader at Pleasant Ridge Middle School. He loves playing soccer for his competitive team and his basketball team. For his mitzvah project, Nathan volunteered at a homeless shelter. Thank you to the rabbis, the B’nai Jehudah team and his tutor, Suzy Rieber, for all their help in becoming a Bar Mitzvah.

We are grateful and so very proud of our Mitzvah Makers who, thanks to the generous and committed leadership of Barbie and Gary Rogoff, are now making upwards of 600 PB&J sandwiches for people in need in our local communities! In addition to the 300 sandwiches we provide to Micah Ministries each month, we will now also be sending 200 sandwiches to HeartnHands, and another 100 sandwiches to Grace Community. Thank you to Barbie and Gary, as well as to all those who give their time and energy to this important program that warms the hearts (and bellies!) of so very many.

From the Klein Collection: Etrog Box

This duck-shaped silver container is an etrog box. It was made in Iraq in the 19th century. The Klein Collection is home to a second duck-inspired etrog box; see if you can find it in the main display next time you’re in the building!
