Welcome, Commissioner John Roy!

We welcome Commissioner John Roy to the Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 Board. John Roy was elected to the Board in the November 2023 election and officially sworn in last week. He is replacing Commissioner Jeff Carrington, whom we would like to thank for his service to our District. With his extensive experience in community outreach and recreation, Commissioner Roy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team.

"I am honored to represent BBBPRD2 as a new Commissioner. It is my privilege to serve this great Blaine/Birch Bay community and I look forward to working for all of you.", Commissioner Roy says.

We look forward to working with him to continue providing our community with exceptional parks and recreation services. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Commissioner Roy!

Introducing our new Youth Program Assistant, Ezri Zimmerman

With our Youth Program Assistant Sabrina graduating soon, we added a new member to our team. Ezri Zimmerman will be on hand to help with kids' activities during our After School Enrichment classes and other events and we are delighted to have her on our team!

"My name is Ezri Zimmerman. I just recently joined the Blaine-Birch Bay Park in Recreation. I am so excited to have been extended this opportunity to help the community. In my free time, I like to hang out with friends and ride my bike to the beach.

I hope that I will be a great addition to the Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Rec." We are excited to have Ezri on our team. Welcome, Ezri!

Adult Prom: A Valentine's Day Event

Prom is just around the corner... for the grown-ups that is! Our Adult Prom Night will take place on Saturday, February 10, just in time for Valentine's Day. This event will feature all the classic prom elements, including live music, dancing, sweet treats and mocktails, and of course, a prom king and queen crowning ceremony.

So here is a little Q&A:

Q: I don't have a date. Can I come anyway?

A: Um.. YESSSS! Come solo, with friends, bring a date, your spouse, your grown-up kid, anyone! It's not just for couples.

Q: Am I too old? Am I too young?

A: As long as you are over 21, you are the perfect age! We have all ages already registered.

Q: What kind of music will you be playing?

A: The band we have selected, The Fender Benders, plays anything from 60s to 70 s covers and up, and we will also be playing 80s, 90s, 2000s tunes to give them a few breaks and for the Millennials among us get to show off those Cha Cha Slide moves. It is going to be a great night for everyone!

Q: Will there be drinks? What about food?

A: We will be serving mocktails and sweet treats at the event. We encourage you to have dinner in one of our many local restaurants before the event. Westside Pizza, Paso del Norte, Border Town Pizza, and L&L Bakery have agreed to be participating locations: if you show your registration, you will get a discount on your meal or treats! Also, Blaine Bouquets will offer a discount on boutonnieres and corsages with proof of registration as well!

Q: Can I show up at the door?

A: You have to register. For planning purposes, we need everyone to be registered ahead of time. We want to make sure we have enough treats and drinks for everyone, and for the event to go smoothly so that everyone can have fun!

Illuminate Birch Bay

The weather last week-end forced us to reschedule our Illuminate Birch Bay event. This luminary walk along the berm will now take place on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. Come out of the darkness of January and join us for a magical luminary walk along the berm. Bring your homemade lantern to the Birch Bay Activity Center before the event, and we'll place it along the path for you. Or bring your lights and lanterns and walk with us. Meet at the Birch Bay Library at 6 p.m. for a cup of hot cocoa, or warm cider, or treat yourself to a cup of coffee, and enjoy a performance by Blaine's Choir, before making your way along the berm. The Beach at Birch Bay and Beach Cat Brewery will have food, special cocktails, and live music to end the night.

Join us on February 17th and March 16th from 3 to 5 p.m. to explore the art of acrylic pouring with our very own talented artist Laura Nesse. Learn how to make your medium and the consistency of the acrylic paints to pour. Then try your hand at four different techniques before deciding to make your work of art on a larger canvas.

Please note that canvases will need to stay here at the Rec Center for a few days to dry before they can be taken home.
