From the President...
Dear Members and friends,
We celebrate Hanukkah as a great miracle. The miracle of overcoming amazing odds, the miracle of saving and defending the temple for over eight days with just a small amount of oil, and the miracle of a small band of Jews defending against a much larger conquering army.
...not much has changed.
We can celebrate today with many of the same miracles. We are still a small band of Jews proudly fighting much larger conquering and hateful enemies. Our miracles come in the form of Noble Prizes- out of 902 total awards, 203 have gone to Jews. Our miracles come from our leadership in education, business, and medicine. And our miracles still include defending our small nation of Israel as well as a small population in America against overwhelming anti-Semitism that continues to grow long after the original miracle of the 2nd century.
We celebrate with lighting our menorahs, we celebrate with parties, latkes, and song. But mostly we need to celebrate that we in America and Israel have the right to worship our God and to gather together
in true celebration of this freedom.
This is no time to forget all those that have suffered for this freedom nor is it time to think that our struggle is over. The miracle of oil is now replaced with dollars. We have many menorahs (non-profit agencies) that need the little bit of oil to continue to burn and insure that Jews throughout the world do not become victims and the horrors of the past stop being repeated. I ask that you take a moment to choose from the list below and help them perform miracles.
Happy Hanukkah to all, and may the coming years find peace and freedom.
