Message from the President
Dear Members and Friends,
Two items to report from the past week.
1. We mourned the passing of Itchy Popkin but in truth, we celebrated his life. With little warning Itchy passed away last week and was buried in our Bnai Israel cemetery on Monday. Our community came together as one family, and provided all the traditions, respect, and care to Itchy and the Popkin family. Rabbi Kozlow and Rabbi Waxman officiated, volunteers came together for the Chevra Kiddusha, and a Mitzvah Kiddish was provided for the family and those returning from the cemetery. We extend our deepest thoughts and condolences to Diane, Lance, Keith and Elaine and all the Popkin family yet know that Itchy left us better for having known him. Thanks to all that helped in this mitzvah of honoring our loved ones.
2. The second event, last Sunday, was the Men's Club annual Super Bowl Party. Thank you to Efraim Jaronowski for putting the event together, taking care of food, screens, and so much more and thanks to Debbie and Jerry Smith for hosting the event at their home. It was a great turn-out, and we look forward to next year.
Dues notices have been sent out, and we greatly appreciate those that have already sent in their payments. Please contact me if you need to make any payment arrangements or need financial help. I also encourage those that can, to be included in our Circle of Honor. These additional funds help offset those families that can't pay full dues, as well as insure that we continue to provide the highest level of Conservative Judaic services, programs, education and social interaction as possible.
We have been working to clean up our cemetery still from Hurricane Florence, as well as repairing 60 years of wear and tear on the brick and mortar of our building and hope to complete these in the next few weeks. After which, we will begin to renovate our sanctuary. Stay tuned for more information on the progress and results of the hard work of our design committee.
Start thinking about your costume for Purim, coming up on Wednesday, March 20th. This is truly one of the FUNNEST nights of the year. Costumes, music, food, and of course the "Shushan Bar".
Don't forget this week is our PRE-NEG. 5:30 for a nosh and glass of wine followed by services at 6:30.
Shabbat Shalom, and see you in Shul,
