September 2018 Newsletter
We would like to say a huge thank you to John Anderson who has been our lead cook for several years with our Senior Ministry. John resigned from these duties after helping train new leadership to take over the responsibilities. John's famous recipes will continue to be a part of the menu. We wish John a restful retirement but know he will continue to bless Bridge Ministry in new ways.
Children and Youth Ministry-
It's back to school and back to BBAY (Burton Bridge Area Youth) for our high school students. The first gathering was held on August 22nd and will be held each Wednesday evening in the Burton Elementary School gym from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Youth enjoy Bible study, games, and a meal along with adult mentors. For more information or to donate a meal contact Lacy Eckert at firstname.lastname@example.org
Manna Ministry- Food Pantry-
We continue to see growth in the number of new families and individuals we serve each month since moving to our new operation of food distribution. We have been blessed with wonderful volunteers who work together to create an enjoyable experience for all. We invite you to come out and join the fun at our next distribution on Friday, September 14th from 10:00 am to noon at St. John United Church of Christ parking lot. We are excited to be moving from a fresh food drop site to a mobile pantry which will offer more canned and dry food items to the fresh vegetables and fruit we receive each month. USDA guidelines apply for all participants. New registration procedures will take place during pantry distribution. Canned and dry foods will be delivered in pre boxed containers so we need folks who can lift up to 20 lbs. to come out and help load them.
The Bridge Ministry garden's "Get in Growing" event held on Saturday, August 25th was a huge success thanks to the 13 folks who came out to help with putting in the new irrigation system and planting vegetable seedlings and seeds. We would also like to thank those who provided lunch afterwards at St. John United Church of Christ, Burton. The garden will provide fresh vegetables and fruit to our pantry and senior ministry. We are gearing up for the annual Bridge Ministry Community Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Sunday, November 18th. An invitation to sign up for volunteer opportunities was emailed to those on our email list. If you are not on our email list and would like to volunteer please contact the Bridge Office at 979-289-2223.
