The Fair Wages & Healthy Families Act

  • Proposition 206, the Fair Wages & Healthy Families Act (the "Act") was a ballot initiative on the November 8, 2016 Arizona ballot.  It was approved by over 58% of the voters. The Act established a new state minimum wage effective January 1, 2017 and entitles employees to accrue paid sick time beginning July 1, 2017.

Protect Your Business

For those of you who missed the Fraud Prevention Facts & Snacks earlier last month, Melissa Swift of Bank of America provided some great tips to protect personal accounts as well as one's business.

Here are just a few things we discussed:

Data Breach Fraud-small businesses are being targeted. This includes Phishing (counterfeit emails), SMShing (mobile phone phishing), Pharming (victim goes to a trusted site, but is redirected to a bogus website), Vishing (phone calls from what appears to be a legitimate company) and Malware (malicious software infiltrated with viruses, worms, spyware).

Information Security- digital & non-digital. Are you protecting your customer's data? Are you protecting your own company's sensitive information?
This includes password security, secured hard copies, beware of insider fraud, have a recover  plan in the event that your company is hacked and be sure that all employees follow online best practices.

Payment Fraud- including forgery, check theft, counterfeiting, washing (removing ink off checks) and credit/debit card fraud.
