Founded by a passionate group of neighbors and volunteers in Malvern in 1994, Home of the Sparrow’s mission is to partner with women facing homelessness and insecurity, and to help them achieve long term stability and chart new paths for their futures. What began with one home in Paoli grew to become an organization with a presence across the county, growing and innovating to help single women and mothers in danger of losing their homes.
Fueled by the generosity of donors across our county, Home of the Sparrow provides supportive housing services to women who are experiencing homelessness, or in danger of losing their homes. They also help to educate women in need with training in financial literacy as a way to gain long term self sufficiency. Home of the Sparrow provides access to a long term safety net, access to critical resources, and the necessary support to get women and mothers back on their feet.
Just last year, Home of the Sparrow helped 1,087 women and children get back on their feet. Through six programs which include eviction prevention, supportive housing, pre-senior bridge housing, shared housing, women’s re-entry assessment program, and graduate outreach, they significantly reduced homelessness in Chester County.
Michelle Venema, the CEO of Home of the Sparrow, has said that it is her ultimate goal to end homelessness for women and children in Chester County. Michelle is a valued member of the Chester County Chamber's Board and we are honored to work with such an incredible organization.
Thank you to Home of the Sparrow and all of their staff, board members, donors, and volunteers for the great work that they do in our community!
