Women's History Month
As part of their Women's History Month series on inspiring women in criminal justice, CJI spotlighted Rhonda Bear, the only formerly incarcerated person on the Oklahoma Department of Corrections’ Board of Directors. In the early 2000s, Bear served 19 months in prison. During her incarceration, she took advantage of classes and took the first steps to create a positive direction for her life. Bear has dedicated herself to advocating for those who are incarcerated and their families. She has served on the Governor’s MODERN Justice Task Force, is the Program Director for Women in Transition with Stand in the Gap Ministries, and founded She Brews, a nonprofit coffee house that hires women with criminal records at its three locations.
