--WELCOME ABOARD--

We are glad to welcome Kayla Grover to the CVC Team our First Colony District Executive.

My name is Kayla Grover and I just recently graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in Marketing. I also received my Associates of Science degree in Mathematics from Thomas Nelson Community College. I was born in Pennsylvania and raised mostly in Williamsburg VA. I currently live in Newport News, Va with my husband and our two big dogs. In my spare time I enjoy going to the beach, traveling and going to festivals. I'm very excited to be apart of the BSA team and can not wait to meet everyone.

OUTDOOR ETHICS
PATCH DESIGN CONTEST

The Colonial Virginia Council's Outdoor Ethics Committee is calling on scouts of all ages to design a patch for the new Colonial Virginia Council Outdoor Ethics Awareness award for Cub Scouts. The winning design will become the Cub Scout-level Outdoor Ethics award for our council.
The patch design  must include the following elements:
Words "Outdoor Ethics"
Acronym "CVC"
Natural/outdoor elements
Fleur-de-lis
The design will be judged on inclusion of the 4 elements above and its theme of Outdoor Ethics. Copyrights and trademarks must be observed and nothing should be used without permission.
Send your patch design to David Lauthers, Colonial Virginia Council Outdoor Ethics Advocate, at  cvclntme@gmail.com
Submissions are due June 1, 2019
The winner will receive a copy of Leave No Trace in the Outdoors written by Dr. Jeffry Marion, a certificate of appreciation signed by the Chair of the Outdoor Ethics Committee, and mention in the Council Newsletter.
Here are my recommendations for the requirements for the patch (not to be published at this time):
Cub Scout Youth and Adults can earn this award:
2) Watch the National Park Service Leave No Trace Video ( https://www.nps.gov/media/video/view.htm?id=86939AB5-155D-451F-675DB05999B571BF)

4) Participate in an Outdoor Ethics Activity with a person who has taken the Outdoor Ethics  Orientation  Course, Leave No Trace Trainer Course or Leave No Trace Master Educator Course.

--UPCOMING TRAINING--

IMPORTANT YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING UPDATE:

If you have started but not completed the current YPT you must complete the training before March 1, 2019, or any progress you have made will not transfer due to the new learning plan.  Otherwise, you may simply start over with the new training plan on March 1, 2019.

If you HAVE already completed the current Youth Protection Training you will NOT be affected.  You will only have to make sure you have taken at least one version of YPT during 2019 to recharter for 2020.

This update will include new policies and procedures implemented since the course was first released in February 2018 , however our Youth Protection and Health and Safety policies, guidelines and procedures are continually being updated and revised. The on-line version of the Guide to Safe Scouting is the single most up to date source of our commitment to Safe Scouting.

Youth Protection certifications will continue to be valid for a two year period.

When the course update is complete, four new VOLUNTARY modules will be added and will be available under the "VOLUNTARY programs."  These include:
1.      Physical Abuse
2.      Neglect
3.      Emotional Abuse
4.      Witnessing Violence

These new, VOLUNTARY modules will provide leaders with knowledge about other forms of abuse.
