The Active Transportation Program was created to encourage increased use of active modes of transportation, such as biking and walking. Funding from the Active Transportation Program may be used to fund the development of community wide bike, pedestrian, safe routes to schools, or active transportation plans in predominantly disadvantaged communities. The goals of the Active Transportation Program are to:

Increase the proportion of trips accomplished by biking and walking or Increase the safety and mobility of non-motorized users.
·
Advance the active transportation efforts of regional agencies to achieve greenhouse gas reduction
·
Enhance public health, including reduction of childhood obesity using programs including, but not limited to, projects eligible for Safe Routes to School Program funding.
·
Ensure that disadvantaged communities fully share in the benefits of the program.
·
Provide a broad spectrum of projects to benefit many types of active transportation users.

City of Bakersfield Receives Prop 68 Grant Award for Over $3 Million
|

California Consulting Client City of Bakersfield received $3,012,385 for the Prop. 68 State Park Program.
This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of the City of Bakersfield's leadership to protect and promote the quality of life for its residents.

California Consulting Welcomes Moriah Bradley as our New Associate for San Diego County
|
|
California Consulting is pleased to welcome Moriah Bradley as our newest Associate serving the San Diego County Area. A native San Diegan, Moriah attended High Tech High International (HTHI) in Point Loma. As a teenager at HTHI, Moriah's interest in the social justice was ignited when an opportunity to volunteer with San Diego Teen Court was presented. She has served as Presiding Juror hearing the cases of teens, often times at-risk youth, and providing restorative justice for those first time offenders. Moriah went on to intern at the San Diego County Public Defender Office and has been passionate about law, politics and social causes ever since.
Moriah is Chair of the NAACP San Diego Branch Health Committee and leads a team of local health professionals to execute programming that (1) work(s) to promote, protect and maintain the health of African Americans; (2) assess the health needs of the community, (3) advocate(s) for equal access to health education, care, treatment and research for all Americans; (4) sponsor(s) health-related activities such as health forums, fairs, and workshops highlighting issues of importance to people of color; and (5) support health initiatives of the Association. Bradley also serves as Vice Moderator for the Southern Association Southern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ and volunteers as Managing Site Director for one of the San Diego Food Bank's Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) sites.
Moriah has a BA from the University of San Francisco in Politics with a minor in Chinese.

Dana Leusch, Senior Statewide Project Manager
|
|
California Consulting is pleased to spotlight Dana Leusch, California Consulting Senior Statewide Project Manager. Dana joined our team in 2012 and has more than 15 years of experience in grant writing for non-profit organizations and freelance writing and reporting for newspapers and magazines. As development coordinator for an organization in the Rocky Mountains serving at-risk youth, her successful grant writing and fundraising led to the creation of a home for at-risk and homeless adolescent girls, which has since housed hundreds of teens in need.
Dana is responsible for client retention and business development activities for the Northern California Region
Dana earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s degree in women’s history from the University of Montana.

U.S. Department of Transportation: Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development “BUILD Transportation Grants” Program

he BUILD Transportation grant program may not exceed 80% for a project located in an urban area. The Secretary may increase the Federal share of costs above 80 percent for a project located in a rural area.
Eligibility:
State, local and tribal governments, including U.S. territories, transit agencies, port authorities, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and other political subdivisions of State or local governments
Funds for the FY 2020 BUILD Transportation grants program are to be awarded on a competitive basis for surface transportation infrastructure projects that will have a significant local or regional impact. The FY 2020 BUILD program will also give special consideration to projects which emphasize improved access to reliable, safe, and affordable transportation for communities in rural areas, such as projects that improve infrastructure condition, address public health and safety, promote regional connectivity or facilitate economic growth or competitiveness. Such projects may concurrently invest in broadband to better facilitate productivity and help rural citizens access opportunities or promote energy independence to help deliver significant local or regional economic benefit.

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers the Beverage Container Redemption Pilot Project Grant Program (Program) pursuant to Section 14581(a)(9) of the Public Resources Code. The purpose of the grant is to issue $5,000,000 in the form of grants for up to five pilot projects proposed by cities and/or counties working in combination with private businesses to provide convenient beverage container redemption in both urban and rural areas that do not have enough recycling opportunities for consumers. The Program requires that local jurisdictions and recycling center operators work closely together to create innovative pilot projects and provide convenient redemption opportunities for consumers, therefore, improving consumer redemption of eligible beverage containers and increase recycling rates in jurisdictions served by pilot projects.
UPDATE: CalRecycle has modified our determination on who can be a grantee in relation to the funding allocated by AB54 for the Beverage Container Recycling Pilot Project Program. Both the approved pilot project jurisdictions and pilot project recyclers (PPR) certified to operate in those pilot projects are eligible for grants. This will allow the PPR operators that use and rely on the equipment and vehicles purchased with the grant funds to own that equipment. (additional information can be found here:

U.S. Department of Justice: COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP)

SVPP funding will provide up to 75% funding
Eligibility
: Applications for SVPP must be submitted by a state, unit of local government (city, county, township, etc.), or its public agencies (state agencies and units of local government agencies such as, county or city public school systems, public boards of education, police departments, sheriff’s departments), or Indian tribes. Recipients of SVPP funding must use funding for the benefit of K-12, primary and secondary schools and students.
The 2020 COPS Office School Violence Prevention Program is a competitive program that provides funding to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the jurisdiction of the grantee through evidence-based school safety programs. Up to $50 million is available for this program.
