These monies will be used to update animal care structures at Arvin High School.

MMASC Hosts Grant Writing 101 Zoom Webinar w/ California Consulting as the Guest Speaker
|

Municipal Management Association of Southern California (MMASC) hosted a Grant Writing 101 Zoom Webinar and invited California Consulting, Inc (CC) as the special guest speaker on May 21st at 10:00am. Thirty Five plus cities from across Southern California participated in the call. CEO Steve Samuelian and Senior Project Manager Ashley Ramsey conducted a comprehensive and detailed presentation regarding grant writing best practices.
MMASC is one of the oldest and the largest associations of its kind in the nation and is recognized by both the International City / County Management Association (ICMA) and the League of California Cities. The organization's more than 800 members represent local governments serving an estimated 22 million residents.

California Consulting and USC Center for the Political Future partnered during the COVID19 shelter at home order to secure interns for their summer program. California Consulting CEO Steve Samuelian worked with the USC staff to secure ten summer internships for students with federal, state, county, and city local elected official offices. Providing a valuable hands on experience for ten deserving students that wish to learn about public policy.
The internship program at the USC Center for the Political Future helps students gain hands-on experience, build relationships in the world of politics, and hone their soft and hard skills to help them throughout their professional career. David Marquez, Senior Project Manager
|
|
California Consulting is pleased to hightlight David Marquez in our June 2020 newsletter.
David Marquez is California Consulting's Senior Project Manager and focused on developing capacity building and community development related services on behalf of non-profit agencies, local government, and the private sector to serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles.
David has extensive experience and familiarity in the area of community and economic development, social and health services and planning and land use issues. He has combined his knowledge of varied issues with his experience in policy development, coalition building, grant management, fund development and local government to develop both strategies for issue-oriented advocacy and program sustainability for his clients.
Prior to joining California Consulting, he served as the Executive Director of several non-profit agencies where he focused on building collaborations and cross-institutional partnerships, both formal and informal, between schools, the private sector and community-based organization to increase the social and economic capital of families in Los Angeles County. Previously, he served as Chief Deputy of Legislation and Policy for former Los Angeles Councilmember Mike Hernandez, where he managed the legislative and planning staff. He began his career as a community organizer, nearly twenty years ago in East Los Angeles. He considers his experience and education as a community organizer as the foundation of his present work.
David is also proud of his community involvement in the City of Los Angeles as a Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles East Area Planning Commission, Member of the Founders Board for the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, and as a board member for the 24th St Theatre, Arts Community Land Activism (ACLA), the California Hospital Medical Center, California Hospital Medical Center-Hope Street Family Center Community Advisory Board and Communications Committee.
David was born in East Los Angeles, graduated from the University of La Verne with a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Studies, and has spent nearly his entire professional career working in the City of Los Angeles. He currently resides in Northeast Los Angeles with his wife and son.

The Active Transportation Program was created to encourage increased use of active modes of transportation, such as biking and walking. Funding from the Active Transportation Program may be used to fund the development of community wide bike, pedestrian, safe routes to schools, or active transportation plans in predominantly disadvantaged communities. The goals of the Active Transportation Program are to:

Increase the proportion of trips accomplished by biking and walking or Increase the safety and mobility of non-motorized users.
·
Advance the active transportation efforts of regional agencies to achieve greenhouse gas reduction
·
Enhance public health, including reduction of childhood obesity using programs including, but not limited to, projects eligible for Safe Routes to School Program funding.
·
Ensure that disadvantaged communities fully share in the benefits of the program.
·
Provide a broad spectrum of projects to benefit many types of active transportation users.

The purpose of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) program is to achieve a significant reduction in traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads, including non-State-owned public roads and roads on tribal land.
HSIP funds are eligible for work on any public road or publicly owned bicycle or pedestrian pathway or trail, or on tribal lands for general use of tribal members, that improves the safety for its users.
All proposed projects will be evaluated based on the Benefit/Cost (B/C) ratios.
