Chamber Welcomes Eric Phares to the Chamber Board

Eric Phares

Please join us in welcoming Eric Phares of Culligan Soft Water to the Chamber Board! Eric was sworn in Tuesday at the Chamber Board Meeting. Board members unanimously voted to appoint Eric to the 2013-2016 term vacated by Dina Brake. Eric has been an ambassador of the Chamber since January and has portrayed all the characteristics of a perfect board member. We're excited to have him on our team! Be sure to send him your warmest congratulations!

Also, we would like to extend our most humble thanks to Dina Brake for her time served on the Chamber board. Personal commitments led to her resignation from the board. We're sad to see her go, but we truly appreciate Dina and everything that she has done for the Chamber. We wish her the best of luck in all her endeavors! Thanks Dina!

The Printing Co

In the last edition of the Chamber News, we inadvertently announced that The Printing Co. had moved into their new location at 205 East Liberty.  Their new address is actually 235 East Columbia in Farmington.

We apologize for the error and would like to again congratulate The Printing Co. on the move to their new location.  It truly is a beautiful facility!!

We've Added a Page!

Finding a Site

Have you had a chance to visit the Chamber's new website yet?  If you haven't, you should!  And if you have, you should go see it again!  We've just added a new page -- "Finding a Home" under the "Living Locally" tab.

This page focuses on buying, selling or renting a home or apartment in Park Hills or Leadington, and includes an entire list of apartments and senior/disabled housing with many details and even a photo for several listings.

We are continually updating, adding and changing things on our new website, and still have a whole list of new pages we intend to add.  It is our hope that the Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce website will be your first stop for everything local!

So, go give us a look:  www.phlcoc.net, and let us know what else you'd like to see on our site!

Counselors to Talk about Food Based Business Requirements

Food Based Business
Food is everywhere and often the entry point for entrepreneurs wanting to start their own business.  Unfortunately, many start-ups are not aware of the requirements for a food based business.  Food based businesses can range from jams and jellies to fresh produce.  Either way the business has regulations it needs to follow.

To help inform the food entrepreneurs, the University of Missouri Extension of Ste. Genevieve and the Cape Girardeau County Small Business Technology Development Center along with the Perry County Health Department, have partnered for an evening discussion on what needs to happen when you start-up a food based business.

After forty-four years of sweeping changes to the print industry, Sterlyn, Joe and John Stevens have merged with The Printing Co., which has offices in Farmington, Cape Girardeau and Perryville.  The Stevens Brothers have worked tirelessly to find a compatible company with the same goals and commitment their clients have come to expect.

Owners Sterlyn, John and Joe Stevens agree, "Like everyone, we look forward to retirement, but it will also be a sad time for us. We have had some customers for forty-four years, and through the years nearly every member of our family has helped out.  As we enter our exit strategy, we will miss the friendships we have formed and the challenges that we have faced. We are very grateful to everyone who has helped to make our business a success and are excited about the new transition taking place with The Printing Co.  It is a great feeling to know that our loyal customers will be taken care of in a way we would want."

Seven Success Lessons It's Never Too Late To Learn

Life's lessons don't always come when we want them. But these 7 tips for success are worthy teachings at any age.

Success

You never know when a new life lesson is about to occur. You can't plan for them.  They just seem to sneak up on you when you least expect them. There are times I wish they had come a bit earlier in life to save me from my foolishness or, at the very least, from the wasted time and energy of learning things the hard way.

All that being said, I am very grateful for all the lessons that have helped me on my journey. Some of the lessons I share below were harder than others to grasp. Some I didn't learn until after I was 40. And I am sure there are new ones coming after next year when I turn 50.

Here are seven of my biggest lessons for success. Although it would have been nice to learn them earlier, I'm glad to have them in my back pocket now.

Your Business Could Win a Super Bowl Ad

Software company Intuit is giving one small business a big prize: a 30-second ad spot at the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLVIII is months away, but the winner has already been decided: one small business. Software company Intuit, creator of TurboTax and QuickBooks, is giving away an enormous prize: a 30-second ad slot at the Super Bowl on February 2, 2014.

That's a gift of about 100 million viewers and $3.8 million dollars. And if your business has 50 fulltime employees or fewer, this could be your big chance to join the Old Spice guy, the Budweiser Frogs, and the E*Trade monkey in the Super Bowl Ad Hall of Fame.
