Chamber Cares Food Drive Receives More Than 1,000 Food Items!

Chamber Cares Food Drive

Pantry shelves in Park Hills have at least 1,000 more food items on them today thanks to the Park Hills-Leadington Chamber Cares, Feed the Kids drive that ended Saturday.

"It's been several years since we have hosted a food drive, so we are really happy with the amount of food that was donated," said Donna Hickman, Park Hills-Leadington Chamber board member. "We'd like to thank everyone who gave."

Organizers requested food that kids like and would find easy to prepare when they are home this summer. So, donations included boxes of macaroni and cheese, jars of peanut butter and jelly, cans of pasta and soup and boxes of juice.

"We thank all the chamber investors who participated and Turner Chevrolet - Cadillac Co., Inc. for not only being a drop-off point, but providing the truck to haul the items to the pantries," said Tamara Coleman, Park Hills-Leadington Chamber Executive Director.

Other drop-off points included:

  • Turner Chevrolet - Cadillac Co., Inc.
  • Pharmax Pharmacy - Leadington
  • Show-Me Rent-To-Own - Park Hills
  • East Missouri Action Agency Outreach - Desloge
  • Central Methodist University
  • Parkland Health Center
  • Belgrade State Bank - Desloge
  • Park Hills Library
  • First Bank - Park Hills Branch
  • All About Me Salon & Spa

The donated food was divided equally between the Elvins Food Pantry and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Food Pantry, both located in Park Hills. Each pantry serves about 350 families each month.

"This will help a lot," said Randy King, president of the Elvins Food Pantry.

"This is great!" said Jennifer Rhodus, president of the Immaculate Conception Pantry.

SBA Plays Small Business Match Maker

With three matchmaking events during National Small Business Week, the SBA is looking to spark a little love between small business owners and government contractors.

SBA Matchmaker

Networking is everything--especially when it comes to landing prime contracting opportunities.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, better known as the SBA, announced Thursday that it is giving such meetings a nudge by hosting three business matchmaking events during National Small Business Week, which takes place June 16-21. The goal, according to the SBA, is to allow small businesses to have face-to-face meetings with prime contractors and federal agencies to learn about contracting and subcontracting opportunities. With this move, the SBA joins a vibrant entrepreneurial matchmaking scene, which features outfits such as CoFoundersLab, EntireLeague, and ActSeed, dubbed "eHarmony for startups and investors."

5 Tips to Keep Your Brand Relevant

Use these tips to help your brand gain new-found relevancy. The alternative is death.

Brand Relevant

All brand managers would love to have a brand that is hot, relevant and shows the kind of retail velocity that we all dream about. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. Like musicians, brands get stale and irrelevant unless they reinvent themselves to be current as consumers' likes and dislikes change over time. This reinvention could come in the form of marketing, product innovation, technology, or a totally new product value proposition. But getting to that point could be a challenge. The first step is for brands to recognize their importance in this ever-changing consumer marketplace.

Here are five more tips to help you gain new-found relevancy:
