Congratulations - TURNER CHEVROLET
The Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce was honored to celebrate the grand re-opening of one of the communities longest established businesses on Friday, October 18, 2013.
Turner Chevrolet-Cadillac Co. Inc. began it's long-lived legend in the Park Hills, formerly Flat River, area in October of 1949 when M.E. Turner and C.W. Stevens became partners and bought the interest of O.W. Bequette in Mid-Town Chevrolet located at 107 West Main Street in Flat River. Joe Turner joined the family owned business in 1963. That same year, plans were begun for a new location. Land was bought a building was built, and dealership officially moved locations in January of 1965, to it's current home at 1005 East Main Street. Mr. Stevens retired soon after the move. M. E. Turner and Joe Turner operated the business until M.E. Was forced to retire due to ill health in December of 1977. From that point until now, Joe Turner has continued to maintain ownership of the thriving, highly-respected dealership. Revitalization of the 12-year old facility began in September of 2012 as construction began on the building's facelift. Today, Joe and his wife Sue are proud to introduce to the community their beautiful, bright, modern facility along with a vision of another 64+ prosperous years for Turner Chevrolet-Cadillac Co., Inc.! Congratulations to Joe, Sue & the entire team at Turner Chevrolet-Cadillac Co. Inc.!! |

Season of Hope 2013
Since 1999 St. Francois County Community Partnership has coordinated a community-wide effort to provide holiday gifts for the children of families who live in poverty in our county. Last year 1,385 children had a great holiday because of donations from people like you. Many of these children would not otherwise receive any gifts. The referrals for this program must meet income guidelines and must come from one of the five school districts in this county, East Missouri Action Agency, or Children's Division. If you wish, you may even request a child/family to sponsor in your town or of a specific sex or age group. Children ages birth to age 18 are served through Season of Hope.

How I Became the Kind of Person Who Can Work a Room
I used to dread networking events. Then a colleague let me in on his secret strategy.
I did it. I went to a cocktail party where I didn't know anyone, and successfully chit-chatted for two hours. (Not to myself. I actually spoke with other people.)
I have never been good at the kind of networking where you're supposed to walk into a room full of strangers and walk out with "connections." The very idea makes me cringe. But as a writer and reporter, I get invited to more than my fair share of meet-and-greets. Every now and then, I read an invite and think, "Eeek. I really should go. But I won't know anyone." Sometimes I go, sometimes I don't. Some of these events are better than others. I rarely have fun.
The Secret to My Big Turnaround
These days, I'm actually looking forward to networking receptions. It's as if all these events are part of a big game, and I've finally figured out how to play.

New security standards released today by Visa, Mastercard, and other credit card companies are going to have a big impact on any business that accepts credit card payments from customers.
The rules, formulated by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, which represents the major card brands, are aimed at making your customers' credit card data more secure--but they will undoubtedly add to your administrative and operational costs too.
Take a look at the requirements you must follow, as of January 1, 2014:
