Serenity HospiceCare
Serenity HospiceCare Honors Norma Clauser
It was as if Norma herself arranged for the beautiful day. On Saturday, Serenity HospiceCare staff held a rummage and bake sale and raised approximately $700 for the Norma Clauser Benevolence Fund. The fund, which was established after Norma's passing in April of 2012, provides the Ensure drink for cancer patients living in St. Francois County. "I think Norma would be so tickled," said Sharon Baker, who's worked with local cancer patients for over almost twelve years. Baker, herself a cancer survivor, knows how important the nutritional drink is to her patients. "For many, it's an absolute lifeline" said Baker. "To know that I'll be able to say 'yes' to people who call in needing the supplement makes me so incredibly happy."

St. Louis Art Museum Opens New Wing
Some 230 works of art, many unseen for years, are on display in the new wing that opened this summer at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
After three years of construction, visitors were welcomed to the East Building expansion to the main museum. The main structure, built by renowned American architect Cass Gilbert as the Palace of Fine Arts for the 1904 World's Fair, boasts a Beaux Arts faade and a grand lobby. British architect David Chipperfield designed the new wing and followed the architectural theme used in the sister cities of Chicago and Kansas City, where contemporary additions were attached to the classic lines of the existing museums. At the grand opening celebration, Chipperfield said the expansion was designed to show off the art, not the building.

Is Obamacare Actually Good for Small Businesses?
Sure it is. Not it's not. Actually, it's complicated...
In this week's issue of The New Yorker, columnist James Surowiecki weighs in on the Obamacare debate, with a column called "The Business End of Obamacare," which makes the case that "the likely benefits of Obamacare for small businesses are enormous." Is Surowiecki's assessment correct? Yes and no.
Rightly, he dismisses complaints about the employer mandate, pointing out that 96 percent of U.S businesses have fewer than 50 employees and therefore don't have to worry about it, and that more than 90 percent of companies with 50 or more employees already offer health coverage. Surowiecki also notes the liberating effect of guaranteed health coverage, which will spur people to leave jobs and pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
The small-business exchanges should also help level the playing field for small companies, which have historically had to pay higher premiums than large firms. As a result, in 2009, only 33.6 percent of firms with fewer than 10 employees offered health insurance. As Surowiecki points out, generous incentives--in the form of a tax credit for small businesses that offer health coverage--under Obamacare could encourage more small businesses to do so.

Is Working From Home Really All That Bad For Business?
Hot on the heels of Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard is now reducing the number of remote employees to spur collaboration. Should you follow suite?
Following in the footsteps of Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard announced Monday that it is rolling out a no-work-from-home policy. Why? The company apparently wants to push for a culture of engagement and collaboration -- something it seems can only happen in the office.
"We are in a multi-year journey to turn HP around, and we have put in place a plan to restore HP to growth. We know where we need to go, and we're making progress," HP CEO Meg Whitman wrote in a note posted to the company's website.
While some employers have concerns about allowing employees to work from home -- such as hindered communication and slacking off -- plenty of data and experts prove otherwise.
