January 2024 Member of the Month: Victoria Romero | |

Victoria “Tory” Romero was hired by LBU Lighting as a Store Manager in 2019. She had little lighting knowledge, nonetheless she was able to apply her retail management experience, passion for training in design, and desire to propel the Fort Lauderdale location to new heights.
LBU Lighting is a contemporary lighting showroom with nine locations across Florida. They joined the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (GFLCC) and sponsored the 2022 GLBX Ally Awards. Soon afterwards Tory connected with the Power Partners Leads Group (currently Vice-Chair) and then LBU was approached by the Greater West Broward Council (GWB) to sponsor the Sawgrass Awards. “Tory was a big help on the committee making things happen. She worked with the team members to boost sponsorship and attendance. Tory was the glue to make the 2023 Sawgrass program a winner.” said David Reece.

Anyone can submit a nomination; however the recipient must either conduct business with fellow members, refer prospective members or be actively involved on a Council, Committee, Leads Group, Board, Sponsor/Host an event. Coral Ridge Yacht Club Named Top-30 Yacht Clubs in America | |

Coral Ridge Yacht Club, a Fort Lauderdale institution since 1947, celebrates its annual Fleet Review and Change of Command on Sunday, January 28, 2024, starting at 3:00 p.m. Fleet Review is a modern rendition of the centuries-old tradition of nation state naval reviews.
CRYC member-owned boats of all sizes stream down the ICW past CRYC’s leadership on shore. Guests and crew dressed in the club’s nautical uniform of navy and white salute on the rail as their boat passes the club. A celebratory cannon shot acknowledges each vessel’s passing. One by one the boats, festooned in colorful flags, pay homage to the club’s maritime roots.
Fleet Review is followed by the Change of Command ceremony, where members thank the outgoing Commodore for his/her leadership and welcome the incoming Commodore.
“This day brings us together to celebrate our history and nautical traditions. It helps adults and children remember that traditions ground us as we navigate our world. For many members, this is their favorite club event of the year,” said Commodore T. Fred Roche.
The event is open to members and their guests, and members of the press who want to capture an impressive and colorful nautical event that reflects Fort Lauderdale’s maritime history and modern place as the yachting capital of the world.
Coral Ridge Yacht Club is a member of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs and was named one of the nation’s top 30 yacht clubs by the Platinum Clubs of America.

Last week's Beach Council meeting covered a range of upcoming events and initiatives, including the upcoming job fair, mixer, and the convention center. Judy Erickson, Planer II with the City of Fort Lauderdale, gave updates on AIA lighting projects. The meeting also covered updates on infrastructure projects, including the renovation of the Northport garage.
The progress of Convention Center and Hotel construction details, including completion dates for various buildings and challenges faced due to weather, was discussed. Stuart Levy, Beach Council Chair, underscored the significance of attendance. He also voiced concerns about police presence during spring break and emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive update from the police at the upcoming meeting.
