AFP Chicago Fellows Spotlight
Timmy Arnold, The Honeycomb Project
Timmy first discovered his love of volunteering while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from DePaul University. His internship with The Honeycomb Project – Chicago’s go-to organization for family volunteering – quickly blossomed from part-time project leading to in-office research and special event planning.
In 2019, Timmy officially joined Honeycomb’s hive as the Development Manager. He now oversees the organization’s individual and corporate giving programs, annual fundraisers, as well as general marketing communications.
Outside of Honeycomb, Timmy proudly serves as the Board Treasurer for 350 Chicago, a non-profit committed to addressing climate change at a local level. On his days off, you may find Timmy roller skating on Chicago’s lakefront, crocheting, or playing Settlers of Catan with friends.
Can you tell us a little bit about your work at The Honeycomb Project?
As the sole member of Honeycomb's Development Department, I work closely with the Executive Director to plan, execute, and evaluate nearly all the organization's major fundraising initiatives. My tasks include expanding Honeycomb's Corporate Membership Program, Building a major gift strategy, managing the Annual Campaign and other seasonal drives, leading year-round donor stewardship efforts, and coordinating fundraising events such as the Fall gala (which generates 30%+ of our annual operating budget). Roughly 90% of my time is spent working on such development activities with 10% dedicated to assisting with and advising program execution.

IDEA Workshop
Introduction to Diversity, Racal Equity, and Inclusion (DREI) with Morten Group, LLC
Thursday, June 17, 2021
1:00 – 3:30 PM
Members Only: $25
Space is Limited

|
This foundational, introductory workshop provides opportunities to examine the ways in which long histories of power and oppression have created lasting, profound, and disproportionate inequities. We approach this webinar by exploring inequity on personal, interpersonal, and institutional levels, relative to the identities we hold, understanding that those with historically marginalized identities continue to fare worse than those with privileged identities when it comes to institutional experiences, and societal outcomes. In this introductory workshop, we will provide opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding of:
- The identities we each hold and how those identities guide our role in creating diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Foundational DREI concepts and terminology
- Tools and actions to support increasing DREI interpersonally, and institutionally
This workshop is for participants with little or no DREI knowledge or experience. If you have undergone a similar training, we encourage you to save space for your colleagues who may have not.
