and Sunday School at 11:00 AM!

COMMUNION RAIL OFFERING
This Sunday, as part of worship, we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper (also known as the Eucharist or Holy Communion). As is our custom, we will be collecting a special communion rail offering. The offering this Sunday will be the annual Human Relations Day offering.
57% of the offering goes to Community Developers Program. This program helps churches serve their neighborhoods - especially communities of color - by focusing on local needs like education, employment, and empowerment.
33% of the offering goes to United Methodist Voluntary Services. The program equips volunteers and congregations tackle injustice through hands-on projects, community organizing, and service-learning opportunities.
10% of the offering goes to Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs. These church-supported programs help young people rebuild their lives through mentoring, leadership training, and positive, faith-based community experiences.
Isaiah 49:1-7 reminds us that God calls us to be a light and promises that our work in God’s name has purpose. Human Relations Day, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision of the beloved community, invites the United Methodist Church to built relationships rooted in dignity, equity, and love. Through our shared connection, every gift tells a story of hope and restoration. Together, our connectional giving support ministries that strengthen communities and reflect Christ’s love.

Adult Bible Study with Bill
This class is based on the Cokesbury Adult Bible Studies series, copies of which are provided without cost. I share my own insights and often cover different material than what's in the book. However, you may gain further insights into the lesson if you have the book. I encourage open discussion in class. I strongly believe that we can all learn from the insight and experiences of others. It's all right to disagree with what I say; my goal is simply to help broaden your understanding of scripture.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Scouting for Food (SFF) is a Boy Scouts of America (Scouting America) initiative to collect food during the month of January when there is a dramatic decrease in food donations following the holidays. I am the San Jacinto District Chair for SFF and I am working with dozens of units to collect food specifically during the week of January 24-January 31. I live in the Seabrook area and you may or may not receive a door hanger placed by a scout during that time requesting food donations in advance and they will pick up the following week. There is a lot of ground to cover! To cast a larger net, I am working with Seabrook United Methodist Church, 3300 Lakeside Drive, Seabrook, Texas to be a collection site. Their hours for drop off are: Monday thru Thursday, 9:00 am until noon; and 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm. The office is closed on Fridays.
We are working closely with InterFaith Caring Ministries (League City) to receive these donations. Their urgent needs for January are: potted meats of all kinds, tuna, chicken, beef and soups. However, they are always happy to have peanut butter, crackers, mac-n-cheese, all canned vegetables and canned fruits, cooking oil, spices, protein bars.
I will have a big box in the Fellowship Hall for your donations.
Thank you,
Charlotte Cherry-Dennis

United Methodist Church Bishops Condemn Violence in Minnesota
1/26/2026 - Bishop News
January 26, 2026
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
In recent days, events in Minnesota and beyond have caused deep grief, concern, and alarm across our connection. The use of lethal force in public spaces, the detention of naturalized citizens, members of our indigenous communities, children, documented and undocumented immigrants, and the treatment of other vulnerable persons have weighed heavily on the hearts of many in our church. These actions have unsettled communities, strained trust, and intensified fear among those already living at the margins.
Scripture reminds us that “when one part of the body suffers, we all suffer with them (I Corinthians 12:26). As a Connectional church, we are reminded that we are one body that cares for and needs each other. The whole body is suffering, right now, today! The violence being perpetrated on our streets, the loss of safety, and the inhumane treatment of God’s children, are hurting us all. We cannot stay silent in the face of the evils of our day.
The United Methodist Church deplores the use of violence, fear, separation, and intimidation as a means of creating social order. Such means do not build beloved community. We reaffirm our longstanding commitment to the sacred worth of every person and to the way of peace taught and embodied by Jesus. We stand against the separation of children from their families. We detest the inhumane, evil actions that are perpetuated by governmental authorities.
Our Social Principles are clear: “We reject governmental use of threats, extortion, unlawful detentions, extrajudicial killings, and other forms of coercion to silence political opponents and those objecting to unlawful or immoral government policies and practices.” They further affirm that the church has both the right and the responsibility to educate and equip its members to be advocates for justice in the wider world (¶163D).
This is a moment that calls for prayerful courage to speak against actions that are bringing harm to our neighbors. This is our time to have an effectual faith that stands with those who are suffering. This is our faithful response to our baptismal vow that summons us into what is required of us “to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8). We must continue to work for justice to help heal the brokenness in our communities and in the world.
We ask you to pray for peace and for justice. And we ask that we work together with our communities so that we can create a world where the sword is turned into plowshares, and the lion lays down with the lamb. May we be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, who empowered by the Holy Spirit, do our part to bring comfort, just practices, and healing for all God’s suffering people.
In Christ’s peace,

ARE YOU LOOKING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
HERE ARE SOME PLACES YOU CAN.

Family Promise
Are you looking for an occasional reminder that you are sitting in a comfortable seat in this world? That you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, and that, on many days, you are in control of the smaller things in your life - when to wake, sleep, eat, exercise, or bathe.
Family Promise can remind you!
Training required - about an hour.
Commitment - Seabrook United Methodist Church volunteers are on the roster 4 times a year, 2 evenings and/or nights a week. That’s 8 times a year max. And you can choose to participate just once a year and still support this program!
Contributions - Purchasing, preparing, and serving dinner dishes. Eating and conversing with families. Interacting with children. Spending a night at our host church, Clear Lake United Methodist Church. And, with any of these, listening to and encouraging our Family Promise guests.
Reward - A glimpse into the lives of others who are currently challenging themselves to create a comfortable seat for their family in this world. They are working on this challenge with the support of the Family Promise program, and you can be a part of us.
https://familypromise.org/ to learn more.
Next Family Promise opportunities will be Tuesday, February 10 and Thursday, February 12. Training can be provided with advance notice.
