PASTOR’S LENTEN STUDY

During the season of Lent, Pastor Chuck will be leading a Lenten study.

The study will meet on Sunday afternoons at 3:30, beginning February 22 and concluding March 29.

The book we will be using is The Last Supper: Conversations That Led To The Cross by Will Willimon. From the back of the book: “Along the road from Palm Sunday to the cross, Jesus told stories - riddles that revealed the heart of God’s kingdom. Will Willimon invites us to walk that road again, listening to Jesus’ most memorable parables as we journey toward the upper room. Through stories of reckless sowers, searching shepherds, prodigal fathers, and open invitations, we discover a God who refuses to take no for an answer.” The book is available from Amazon or Cokesbury.com.

HOLY WEEK WORSHIP

Holy Week is the week between Palm/Passion Sunday and Easter Sunday. Thursday of Holy Week is the time when Christians remember the last supper. On Holy Thursday (April 2) the choir will present the cantata Calvary’s Lamb: A Song, A Sacrifice, A Savior by Mary McDonald. The service will begin at 7:00 pm. The service will include the celebration of the Eucharist. Childcare will be provided.

Friday of Holy Week (April 3) is Good Friday. Good Friday is the day Christians remember Jesus’ passion. The sanctuary will be open from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon for those who would like to come in and pray.

EASTER WORSHIP

We will begin Easter Sunday (April 5) with a Sunrise Service. The service will begin at 7:00 AM. Jack Womack will be preaching. The service will be at the church.

We will continue our celebration of Easter (April 5) with worship at 10:00 AM.

SPECIAL EVENTS

We will have an Easter Egg Hunt on Palm/Passion Sunday (March 29) right after worship.

We will have a Butterfly Release on Easter Sunday (April 5) at 9:15 AM.

Faith Journeys with Pastor Jack

This week in Bible study, we’ll step into one of the most powerful and personal moments in Luke’s Gospel—the conversation between Jesus and the two criminals crucified beside him (Luke 23:32–43).

What does that moment say about forgiveness? About faith at the very end? About how God sees us—even when we feel we’ve come too late?

Join us this Sunday as we listen in on that conversation—and consider what it might mean for our own.

Come and be part of the discussion.

Greg Way's Sunday School Class

The Lenten theme for the Genesis Class will be "Encounters with God: Temptation." Please join us as we consider the struggles of our Patriarchs and Prophets.

Jesus proclaimed to his disciple Peter "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah!" and just moments later, still addressing Peter, "Get behind me, Satan!" Blessed? Or Satan? What's going on?

Adult Bible Study with Bill

This class is based on the Cokesbury Adult Bible Studies series, copies of which are provided without cost. I share my own insights and often cover different material than what's in the book. However, you may gain further insights into the lesson if you have the book. I encourage open discussion in class.
The scripture for my lesson this Sunday comes from
John 12:12-19. In this lesson, we will examine what hope Jesus' Palm Sunday procession to provides for those who are suffering today.

MONDAY BOOK CLUB

Join us for a 10-week study of John Ortberg’s book entitled “If You Want to Walk On Water You’ve Got To Get Out of the Boat”, exploring faith and an understanding of God’s call for our lives.

The next book study is scheduled for Monday, March 30 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Church.

Call or email Robin Brey at 210-884-4988/brey@uthscsa.edu for questions.

Clear Lake Presbyterian Church Invitation to Mental Health Ministry Minds Transformed Support Group - Wednesday April, 1 @ 7:00 p.m.

Good Afternoon,

I’m writing to share an opportunity for members of your faith community.

As you may know, when most people are experiencing mental health concerns, the first place they turn is to their faith community. Since we are on the front lines of this challenge it is important that we share appropriate resources and provide support.

Beginning on April 1 at 7:00pm, Clear Lake Presbyterian Church will offer an eight-week Minds Transformed Support Group designed to help participants understand mental health challenges while developing practical tools for healing, resilience, and emotional well-being. This Bible centered curriculum is designed by the Hope and Healing Center and Institute and Gateway to Hope. The support group will be led by trained mental health coaches.

Please see the flyer below if you are interested in the "Minds Transformed" Support Group or if you have questions or need more information, please contact me. I’d love to talk with you more about our mental health ministry.

Your partnership in this important ministry is vital to the community. Thank you so much for helping us spread the word about this new support group.

Join the Newton 500 Can Challenge.

Pastor Joe Miller speaks to Seabrook United Women of Faith’s April 14th meeting.

Everyone (men too) is invited to join the Seabrook United Women of Faith on Tuesday, April 14 at 3:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Joe Miller will be speaking about the Newton Food Share (501C3) in Newton, TX. The Seabrook United Women of Faith are conducting a challenge of collecting 500 cans of beans for the Newton Food Share by April 14th and invite everyone plus friends and neighbors to participate by dropping the beans off in the Fellowship Hall. See the list of beans below.

Joe Miller was a chemical engineer who worked at Goodyear in R&D and plant management in Houston when he and Kathy, his wife, joined Seabrook United Methodist Church in the 1990s. At the encouragement of Pastor Rick Goodrich and Seabrook United Methodist Church members, Joe attended seminary at SMU, and became an associate pastor for Seabrook United Methodist Church around 1999. They went to Moody United Methodist Church in 2003, then in 2004 were assigned to Newton United Methodist Church and started the Newton Food Share. Joe and Kathy still live there today and attend United Methodist Church of the Pines. Newton City has a 20% higher poverty rate (31.5%) than the Texas Statewide average(13.4%) .

Joe said “People here are bean eaters. We eat any kind of beans (except lentils and chick peas)” He suggested the following types of canned beans: 1. Ranch, 2) Blacked eyed peas, 3) Butter beans, 4) Pork and Beans, 5) Chili Beans, 6) Pinto for sure (and bagged pintos), 7) Kidney beans, and 8) Black Beans

ARE YOU LOOKING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

HERE ARE SOME PLACES YOU CAN.

Family Promise

Are you looking for an occasional reminder that you are sitting in a comfortable seat in this world? That you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, and that, on many days, you are in control of the smaller things in your life - when to wake, sleep, eat, exercise, or bathe.

Family Promise can remind you!

Training required - about an hour.

Commitment - Seabrook United Methodist Church volunteers are on the roster 4 times a year, 2 evenings and/or nights a week. That’s 8 times a year max. And you can choose to participate just once a year and still support this program!

Our next host weeks:

MAY 10 - 17

AUGUST 16 -23

NOVEMBER 8 -15

Contributions - Purchasing, preparing, and serving dinner dishes. Eating and conversing with families. Interacting with children. Spending a night at our host church, Clear Lake United Methodist Church. And, with any of these, listening to and encouraging our Family Promise guests.

Reward - A glimpse into the lives of others who are currently challenging themselves to create a comfortable seat for their family in this world. They are working on this challenge with the support of the Family Promise program, and you can be a part of us.

https://familypromise.org/ to learn more.

Our coordinator is Hilary Gibbs. If you would like to get involved, please contact Hilary at 832-385-2414 or Velita at the church office

(281-326-1970) and she will pass on your interest to Hilary.

The Gathering Place

We partner with Care Partners, an organization which ministers to people dealing with memory issues and their caregivers. Once a month we host a gathering at the church, providing social interaction and entertainment and games and a meal. If you would like to get involved, please contact Kris Brummerhop at kbhop709@gmail.com.

Food Assistance

Donate groceries or cash for The Bridge over Troubled Waters, a facility housing for abused families; help with bagging the groceries; join our precious Cookie Angels and bake homemade cookies/cup cakes/treats for the children at the Bridge. If you would like to get involved, please contact Velita Way at Velita@Seabrookumc.org.
