Welcome to Your City @ Work, where you will find City of Dunedin highlights from the City Manager's office each month.

MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Spring time is budget time.  We are working hard on the FY 2020 budget. The City’s budget last year was $133.9M across all funds. Our millage rate is 4.1345 mils per $1000 in assessed value. What does that mean exactly? Divide your property’s assessed value which you can find at the Pinellas County Tax Collector website by 1000 and multiply by 4.1345. The result is what you pay in taxes to the City of Dunedin. Most people don’t know that property taxes in Dunedin only comprise 33% of our general fund. For that you get Public Safety (Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services). For that you get Parks and Recreation (events, open space maintenance, parks maintenance). Our enterprise funds (Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste) are supported by user fees.

I hope that when you look at your TRIM (Truth in Millage) statement, you understand that only 21% of your total tax bill comes back to the City of Dunedin.

FUNEDIN FACT
At one time Dunedin had the largest fleet of sailing vessels in Florida. Early settlers were primarily cotton and citrus growers, and it is hard to envision that most of what is now downtown was once a big cotton field!
