New Interpretations Adopted by CoAEMSP Board
Staff Contact: Lisa Collard, [email protected]

The CoAEMSP Board adopted new interpretations of the CAAHEP Standards during its November board meeting.

The CoAEMSP Interpretations of the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines is a companion document that contains interpretations of the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines which are adopted by the CoAEMSP through policies. CoAEMSP Policy XVII. Interpretations of CAAHEP Standards allow various stakeholder groups the opportunity to provide input during a public comment period regarding proposed language for the CoAEMSP Interpretations of the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines. At the conclusion of the public comment period, all comments are reviewed, and the interpretation is finalized during the next CoAEMSP Board of Directors meeting.

The interpretations for several CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines were developed during the July 2020 CoAEMSP Board of Directors meeting and released for a public comment period. All comments were reviewed, and the italicized interpretations were finalized during the November 2020 CoAEMSP Board of Directors meeting. The CoAEMSP Policy and Procedures document and the CoAEMSP Interpretations of the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines can be found here.

ACCREDITCON: What is Your Perspective?
Staff Contact: Jennifer Anderson Warwick, [email protected]

The inaugural ACCREDITCON in 2019 saw nearly 500 guests; in 2020, we were on track to exceed that number before canceling. The conference in 2021 will look different because of the implemented precautions to protect guests at ACCREDITCON.

On December 8 all program directors and lead instructors received an email from us asking them to complete a short survey providing their thoughts about ACCREDITCON in 2021, which is scheduled to be held June 2-6, in Louisville.

Your perspective is valuable, recognizing that plans for ACCREDITCON may change over the next few months. The survey intends to gauge your current outlook about this event today and aid the CoAEMSP Board of Directors, Program Planning Committee, and staff in making informed decisions.

If you have not taken the survey, please complete it now! You do not need to be a program director or lead instructor to complete it.

Assessing and Documenting the Progression of Learning
Assessing and Documenting the Progression of Learning

Wednesday, January 27
1pm Central Time

Your site visitors inquire how you document the progression of student learning. What are they asking for and how can you demonstrate that your program is not just focused on checking the boxes, but on communication among faculty, including the Medical Director, and monitoring student progression in attaining competencies in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains?

Join Pat and Megan to learn how to track/document when regression occurs or progress stalls, understand considerations of ways to answer the question: ‘How do you monitor and document progression of student learning?'

ASA Committee on Trauma and Emergency
Preparedness (COTEP)
Addressing the Opioid Epidemic with a New Naloxone Awareness Project
The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Committee on Trauma and Emergency Preparedness (COTEP) is undertaking a major project on opiate overdose this year – chiefly regarding the furnishing of naloxone treatment in the same way defibrillators and tourniquets have been popularized.

To learn more about the project, such as combating the problem, public education, opioid naloxone reversal, public advocacy, and the recommendations, read the recent article in the ASA Monitor here.
NREMT to Discontinue Issuing Provisional Certifications
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) will stop issuing Provisional Certifications on December 31, 2020. Please note that Provisional Certifications already issued are valid through the end of next year – December 31, 2021, or when a provider successfully passes the psychomotor examination and becomes fully Nationally Registered.

For those who currently hold a Provisional Certification, the path to convert to full Nationally Registry certification only requires successful completion of the psychomotor examination.

A reminder to EMS providers to also check with your state EMS office and/or local licensing authority for information about your State EMS License or local credentials.

Important Information on the New CAAHEP Mailing Address
CAAHEP has a new mailing address, and the CoAEMSP policy requires that your program post it in publications advertising the CAAHEP accredited program. Take time to update the address in your publications. Be sure your accounting department is updated as well.

New Requirements Effective January 2021
Satellites and Alternate Locations
Staff contact: Lynn Caruthers, [email protected]

CAAHEP accredited programs may develop non-main campus locations to deliver components of the course or, at times, the entire program to meet students' and stakeholders' needs. The distinctions and delivery modes can be confusing but are essential in program operation and assessment. CAAHEP has revised the definition of a satellite which must offer all the professional didactic and laboratory content of the program. This may include any distance education delivery modality. The CoAEMSP has defined an alternate location for those sites where a portion of the education is delivered, but not the entire didactic and lab components.

For a current list of LoR and accredited programs, visit www.caahep.org.
Congratulations!
