Updates to Policies for Programs
|
The CoAEMSP Board of Directors approved new and revised policies. A synopsis appears below. For the policies in full, the CoAEMSP Policies and Procedures for Programs can be found here.
New language
Introduction to Policy Manual
To clarify the purpose of the CoAEMSP Policy Manual and the CAAHEP Policy Manual, language was added for the Introduction to the Policy Manual. The CoAEMSP Policy Manual works in conjunction with the CAAHEP Policies and Procedures Manual ( www.caahep.org), and EMS Program Directors should keep both Manuals available for easy reference.
Revised policy
IV.A.3. Maintaining Accreditation - Publishing of Program Accreditation Status
Revisions have been made to the statement programs use to publish their accreditation status. The actual mailing address has been removed, and there is a requirement to include the website address and phone number.

Thank You for Making ACCREDITCON a Success!
|
ACCREDITCON 2021 was a success due to the efforts of so many people. Our speakers, sponsors, board, and staff gave of their time, resources and expertise to make this virtual collaborative flow seamlessly and be presented professionally: and those are your observations! (Read guest comments below.) A wealth of information was shared, including:
- COVID may have ‘rocked our world’ but we were able to make important discoveries, particularly how simulated and distance learning will be part of our future.
- NHTSA shared its perspective on maintaining the EMS education “pipeline” including the people-centered system of the EMS 2050 Agenda, and its various influences on EMS Education Curriculum Development.
- Changes that are on the horizon for student minimum competencies, and why Programs must set, monitor, and report student minimum competency required numbers.
- Regarding pediatrics and EMS, a rationale was offered for a solid foundation in “normal” Pediatric Airway Management, and ideas for non-traditional and non-clinical resources for enhancing students’ pediatric exposure, plus insight into why opportunities for Airway training are becoming limited and competitive.
- The necessary responsibilities of Medical Directors, the importance of physicians having educational interaction with students, and how programs can avoid citations involving Medical Director responsibilities.
- The National Registry's Practice Analysis, how quickly practices change, and how pre-hospital providers must be adequately prepared for the challenges they will face in the field.
- Educators must be willing participants regarding change if they are going to affect change in regards to Cultural Humility and Awareness, and we should seek to understand other cultures, and incorporate all forms of diversity into our lessons.
- CAAHEP shared its position on Online Learning & Teaching, the duties and responsibilities of the program director were thoroughly reviewed, and the documentation needed for the program’s self study, progress reports, and more.
- How to avoid common pitfalls in Student Tracking by understanding what to track, how to track, when to track, where to store the data, and what to do with it.
- The critical need for test questions to be accurate, clear, concise, and test higher level thinking.
- What is driving revisions in the National EMS Education Standards.
- What might be in the near and distant future for EMS education.
We have already begun planning ACCREDITCON 2022, which will be held in Louisville, June 1-5. Mark your calendars now!

These highlights are shared directly with each of the sponsors’ CEOs following the 30-day moratorium after a Board meeting as well as posted here for review by anyone, including students, graduates, faculty, Paramedic educational program sponsors, administration, hospital/clinic representatives, employers, police and/or fire services with a role.

Reminder: Your Annual Fee is Due July 31
|
The annual accreditation fee invoice for the 2021-2022 academic year was sent to your program director on May 5, 2021. The fee is due July 31, 2021.
The CoAEMSP is encouraging all programs to pay its invoices via Automated Clearing House (ACH). This is in an effort to save time, streamline processes, reduce data entry, and eliminate additional processing fees. Payments may also be made via the View and Pay option located within the invoice.
Checks mailed using a traceable carrier such as UPS, USPS, or FedEx will also be accepted; however, we are moving toward requiring all future payments to be made via ACH or View and Pay. Credit cards are not accepted.
All programs selecting to pay by ACH should email a payment advice to sybil@coaemsp.org. (A payment advice provides the details on payment and provides advance notice to the recipient.)
The advantages of paying via ACH or the View and Pay Invoice are:
• pay directly through the invoice
• secure environment
• payment processes in 3 days instead of 3 weeks (checks)
• automatically applies to the invoice (less data entry errors)
Thank you for your attention to this upcoming annual accreditation fee cycle.
