New Tool

Sample of Occupational Risks

The 2023 CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions require that programs must publish both technical standards for students entering the program and information on occupational risks. The technical standards requirement has been in place; the occupational risks are new; both can be found in the Resource Library > Samples section. Programs may wish to modify and add to this sample as appropriate.

Personnel: When you have a change

Programs are required to notify the CoAEMSP of changes in key personnel, whether interim or permanent, within 30 calendar days. Failure to notify the CoAEMSP within the times prescribed in CoAEMSP Policies & Procedures, Policy XVI, Personnel may result in Administrative Probation.

Key personnel are the only positions tracked by CoAEMSP and are identified as the:

  • President/CEO
  • Dean
  • Program Director
  • Medical Director
  • Satellite Lead Instructor(s)

Programs must use the Personnel Form available on the Personnel webpage. The Personnel Form has been streamlined; all required supporting evidence will be embedded in this one form as directed.

Effective immediately, the positions listed below no longer require approval by CoAEMSP; however, programs are responsible for maintaining documentation to demonstrate that individuals holding any of these positions meet or exceed the qualifications outlined in Standard III.B. of the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines

  • Associate Medical Director(s)
  • Assistant Medical Director(s)
  • Lead Instructor(s)

Contact Lynn Caruthers at 214-703-8445, ext. 115, if you have questions or would like assistance with completing the Personnel Form.

Is your program sponsor a consortium?

The CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Profession defines a consortium as a group made up of two or more members that operate an educational program through a written agreement that outlines the expectations and responsibilities of each of the consortium partners. At least one of the partners must meet the requirements of a program sponsor set forth in standard I.A.1.- I.A.4.

The consortium is responsible for all the educational activities in the program. A consortium agreement that details the responsibilities of each of the consortium partners is required. An organizational chart that identifies the partner members that comprise the board is also required. The consortium governing board is required to meet at least annually.

The meetings of the consortium governing board are separate and distinct from the meetings of the program advisory committee. During the consortium board meetings, the program operation and responsibilities of each party must be reviewed and discussed.

To facilitate capturing and documenting the discussion, a sample template for the consortium board meeting agenda and minutes has been developed and can be found in the Resource Library on the CoAEMSP website at www.coaemsp.org. The use of this tool is optional but is highly recommended to ensure that the program governance meets and documents the requirements for a consortium.

The Resource Library provides three documents for consortium sponsored programs:
