Your Commitment to Our Coast

Time and time again, our community has demonstrated a commitment to preserving, restoring, and sharing this remarkable stretch of coast.

No event captures this better than our annual Open House in early December. On a crisp, sunny day, folks gathered at Mill Bend Preserve to craft holiday decor from natural materials found on site. Families wove branches into festive wreaths at tables stacked high with holly, fir, redwood, eucalyptus, and other greens. Kids made garlands from corks and beads, and learned how to make Christmas trees out of driftwood. The energy was lively, as familiar faces greeted each other and new acquaintances were welcomed to Mill Bend Preserve for the first time. With cups of spiced apple cider in hand, visitors explored trails that were recently cleared by our volunteers so native species will thrive.

The day was more than just an event, it was a celebration of what we can achieve when we work together. Thanks to your support, Mill Bend Preserve’s ecological significance and scenic splendor will be protected forever. Your commitment to restoring these habitats will ensure that native flora and fauna will flourish. And your participation in community events will inspire a new generation to gain a deeper understanding of why this landscape is so important to all of us. Nicole Forte, who generously donated her time to coordinate the event, summed up her impressions of the day: “I really enjoyed meeting and talking with new families and first-time visitors to Mill Bend Preserve, and seeing the wonderful creations. The laughter from the children was contagious. The work by volunteers to help plan, prepare, and hold the event was extraordinary. Thank you all."

As we look toward 2025, our vision for the future is ambitious. But to fully realize this vision, we need your support. With the continued efforts of RCLC volunteers, we are able to stretch your generosity to preserve native habitats, restore those requiring repair, and deliver new ways for the community to enjoy and learn from the natural world. We would be honored for you to consider making a gift to RCLC now in support of this shared effort.
