A Message From Your KY Chapter President
Caren McCarty

Is everyone ready for Spring? I know I am! Longer daylight hours always make me think of Spring. Moving the clock forward always makes me think of our AMTA-KY Annual Spring Education Conferences. AMTA National still has the restriction of NO face to face meetings through June 2021. (This is being done to keep us all safe.) This breaks my heart that we WILL NOT be able to hold our Annual Education Conference this year. Usually, we hold our Annual Business Meeting at lunch during our Education Conference, but since we cannot meet face to face we will hold our 2021 Business Meeting virtually. For more information see the article BELOW titled "SAVE THE DATE" in this Newsletter. I hope you will join us. I am looking forward to the new way of communicating and I hope you are too.

Until we can meet again in KY and if you need to fulfill your CE requirements, please click here to see what options AMTA has for you. AMTA offers a variety of rigorously vetted massage therapy continuing education classes and training, available online. AMTA members save up to 40%! I personally have taken 14 AMTA online CE's in 2020 and I highly recommend them.

Best Regards,
Caren

Government Relations
Report
Ann Boone,
Government Relations Chair
The Senate’s Health & Welfare Committee recently passed HB79, and is waiting to be sent to the Governor's office for signature. We hope the bill will be effective by June 1st. Before HB79 was sent to the Senate, AMTA-KY removed language requiring establishments (spas and other cosmetology-inspected businesses) to report feedback from the cosmetology board.

HB79 also contained a requirement for the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Massage Therapy (KBLMT) to post color photographs with licenses online. AMTA-KY will be working with the KBLMT on how to proceed so that only law enforcement and other therapists can access these photos. This precaution is being taken to protect the privacy of therapists who have been victims of stalking and/or other predatory behaviors.

We will monitor all developments on this legislation and will keep you up to date as we continue to advocate for all massage therapists in Kentucky. In the meantime, we encourage you to reach out to our team with any questions at grinfo@amtamassage.org.

Our Government Relations Team remains engaged with federal, state and local officials for updates on laws, executive orders, regulations and guidelines that impact massage therapists during COVID-19. We are here for you and will continue to support you each step of the way.

In health, Ann

The Proposed Changes To The
AMTA-KY Chapter Standing Rules
Are Ready For Your VOTE!

Watch your emails closely

Rationale for proposed changes:
Many of the changes are housekeeping. Duties and responsibilities for chapter board members and delegates are defined in position descriptions approved by the national board. Removal of the duties in chapter standing rules ensures that the chapter is in alignment with national bylaws and policies. In addition, removal of specific detail provides additional flexibility when assigning tasks to volunteers based on strengths.
AMTA-KY Member Spotlight
Terry Pollard

Meet Terry Pollard, one of our new AMTA volunteers!
Terry is a LMT located in Owensboro, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Daymar College and has been practicing for 8 years. He is a single father of a 16-year-old son, Dalton, a 12-year-old daughter, Diamond, and a 11-year-old daughter Ashlyn.
When asked about AMTA, Terry responded that he was grateful for the quality conferences and continuing education AMTA provides. He feels it is his responsibility to use the opportunities AMTA provides to network, further our profession, and improve our industry.
He practices massage while using the Bruce Lee philosophy to “be like water”. This approach lets him conform to the client’s needs and provide each client an individualized session that gives them what their bodies need. Just like water shapes itself to the container it is in, he adapts to their individual concerns.
Finally, Terry had some remarks relative to the world situation we find ourselves in – a global pandemic. He said, “I think the community needs our profession to help them recover from the isolation of being locked down and socially distanced for over a year. I hope we as a profession step up and work to improve overall quality of life and rise to the challenges before us through our skills and compassion for others.”
Recently Terry was interviewed by the Owensboro Times. Here is a link to read more about his personal and professional journey.
We are grateful for all our volunteers and look forward to Terry’s gifts of dedication through the AMTA lens. Welcome!
