A Message From Your
AMTA-KY Chapter President
Caren McCarty

Hello -

Happy New Year! I hope you all are excited as I am for our first "Face To Face" Meeting in 2 years. I will be closing out my fourth year as AMTA-KY Chapter President and cannot wait to see everyone again. Look below to find out more details about our Face to Face Meeting as well as our Social Event. Both will take place at the Embassy Suites in Lexington, KY on March 12, 2022.

As I close out my final months as your AMTA-KY Chapter President, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for all of the Board and Committee Members that have willingly given their time and energy to support me and the Kentucky Chapter during the last four years. I could not have held the chapter together, especially the past two years, without the dedication of ALL of our KY Volunteers. Thank you all so much for allowing me to be your AMTA-KY Chapter President. It has been such an honor.
I definitely feel that AMTA has helped me develop skills personally and professionally, that I didn't know I had. I feel I am a better person just knowing you all.

Please help me support the next generation of great AMTA-KY Volunteers by becoming a Volunteer yourself. I will continue working behind the scenes for a bit to help with transitions. So I will still be around for a little while.

Also, as we navigate towards the end of this pandemic, I would like to encourage you all to remain positive and count your blessings. Name them one by one. Live in the moment and make every minute count. Always remember the good times and don't forget to laugh. Until I see you again, please stay safe and healthy.

Wishing you a bright future,
Caren G. McCarty
AMTA-KY President

Government Relations
Report Update January, 2022
Ann Boone,
Government Relations Chair

AMTA-KY has continued to work with the KBLMT and Bob Babbage and his Babbage Cofounders lobbyist group to move forward portions of HB79 that were passed in March 2021. Once a bill passes, there are often many more steps before the proposed amendments are finalized and put into practice. We are currently waiting for separate committees to approve items in the bill such as fees, device use and basically “clean up” the laws and regulations in written form. When the KBLMT has received approval from the various entities regarding various items in the bill that are under their purvey, we will have a final version which can then be put into practice. It has been a long road as we have been involved in various committees and assisting to ensure that the original intent of HB79 is followed through. We are getting closer but don’t have any exact dates when this will be done. As soon as it is, we will send out a notification to all members. Please be sure that your contact information is updated (especially your email) so that you receive it. Please email my@ky.gov if you have any questions regarding how this affects your renewals, etc. One portion of the bill that is in effect is that the CE’s have been lowered from 24 to 12 every 2 years. This includes 3 hours of ethics (i.e., 9 hours of other CE and 3 of ethics).

We have also been working with the FBI, Representative Koch (sponsor of HB79), Rebecca Hartsough and Bob’s team on a separate bill, HB175. This can be found on the Legislative Research Commission's website or click here. This bill has to do with curbing human trafficking in many industries (e.g., agricultural, restaurants, etc.) as well as the Massage Therapy profession. This is being introduced as a separate bill as it will have more strength behind it with the FBI’s involvement It addresses the issue more broadly and not only for our profession.  We are now waiting for this bill to move through the Licensing & Occupations Committee, which should be straightforward, and then on to its first committee hearing.

Your AMTA-KY Government Relations team is staying abreast of next steps. We will pass along any significant benchmarks when we have that information.

In health, Ann
Ann E. Boone, LMT
AMTA-KY Government Relations chair

Remember:
Please continue to check the KBLMT website for any updates (bmt.ky.gov). We will share updates as we receive them as well. If you have any further questions, please contact Ann E. Boone, LMT at grchair@amtaky.org.
