Just before Christmas, President and CEO, Sheila Mathews presented cribs, mattresses, and car seats to Grace Place staff. Items are earned by expecting parents in exchange for their successful completion of parenthood preparation classes. 
Cortez Chamber welcomes young professionals  
FCCB's Taylor Hill (center, left) worked behind the scenes on the creation of the Cortez Chamber Young Professionals of Montezuma County. She and other bank staff attended the inaugural meeting last month. The group consists of professionals under 40 for the purpose of networking, leadership training, and social events for emerging leaders.

Insight: Identity protection awareness from the FTC and IRS
FTC Warns of New Mail Cash Scam Targeting Seniors
The Federal Trade Commission is warning seniors of a new mail cash scam fraudsters are using to target and defraud the elderly. The scam is similar to the grandparent scam in which fraudsters impersonate a family or friend in need of emergency funds; however, the victims are instructed to send cash using carriers like FedEx, UPS, and the U.S. Postal Service. The FTC urges seniors to verify the caller before complying with the request, and to be mindful of what they post on social networking sites as fraudsters leverage these platforms to solicit personal information to use as part of the scam. IRS Warns Small Businesses of Increased Attempts of Identity Theft and W-2 Scams
In preparation of the 2019 tax season, the IRS is warning small business owners to be alert of identity theft and W-2 scams. A news release from the agency outlines several tactics used by fraudsters to steal information and file fake W-2 forms, and provides several recommendations for preventing and reporting these frauds.
