CFSA Exits LaShawn

Earlier this month, Director Matthews was joined by Mayor Bowser and former CFSA Director Brenda Donald at the final status hearing of the LaShawn class-action lawsuit. The leadership team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to CFSA’s staff, resource parents, partners, and community stakeholders who have worked together tirelessly to create an innovative and forward-thinking child welfare agency that protects children and supports families. Your dedication got us here, and your continued commitment will take us to new heights as we usher in a new era of child and family well-being.
CFSA Will Launch Release 1 of STAAND in November

Release 1 of CFSA’s new Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS), Stronger Together Against Abuse and Neglect in DC (STAAND), is set to launch in November. STAAND will modernize CFSA’s work with children and families though greater automation, notifications, and dashboards. “Release 1” will be a tool for the following functions:

  1. Referrals for the resources provided by the Office of Well Being (OWB) and the Office of Youth Empowerment (OYE) to support faster delivery of these much-need services to our children and families.
  2. Resource parent recruitment, training, licensing, and re-licensing to support a smooth onboarding experience and improve retention for our resource parents.

**Please note that for Release 1, FACES will remain the system of record until STAAND eventually replaces it. Email questions to cfsa.STAANDsupport@dc.gov.
Sharing CFSA with the World

Last week, CFSA hosted a group of social workers from the Child Protective Services of Reykjavik, Iceland.

As they toured the building’s intentional spaces and learned about our practice and operations, our guests were impressed by the outcomes of our children and families—a direct representation of the hard work and dedication each of you puts forth every day.

We’re so excited about this international partnership—please check out the slideshow below for highlights from the visit.
Celebrating Ms. Joy "Jolly" Atkins

After over 25 years of service, Ms. Joy Atkins retired as Supervisory Eligibility Specialist within the Business Services Administration. To honor her contribution to our agency and community, our colleagues came together yesterday to celebrate a woman many considered an “institution” at CFSA. With tunes from the CFSA Social Excellence Band, we danced, ate, and heard words of appreciation for Ms. Atkins’s legacy from Mayor Bowser, Director Matthews, and many others. Check out the slideshow below.
Thanks for Going Global with CFSA!

To host its annual recognition event, CFSA took the party to Garfield Park. Decked in our CFSA t-shirts and representative garb, we line danced to Afrobeats and jammed with tunes provided by our very own Social Excellence Band. It felt great to get outside and enjoy some fun with the whole team, take a look at the vibrant colors and cultures of CFSA.
