During Hispanic Heritage Month, our Diablos Rojos are busy, busy, busy! Or rather, ocupados, as we say in español.

  • They are making a library display and have created an Amazon Wishlist for anyone to donate Spanish-language books to our library, so we can have a wider selection of items available to all our students!

  • They've also started a weekly newsletter for the DHHS Spanish Club y Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. Check it out!

  • Finally, they are looking for domino sets. If you have some dominos laying around collecting dust, please contact the clubs at dhhslosdiablosrojos@gmail.com

What Is Hispanic Heritage Month?
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HHM HERE.
Homecoming Float Building is Coming
Our Homecoming parade and float building are right around the corner. This year's float building period will be Thursday October 12th thru Thursday October 19th.

For those that do not know, float building is one of Druid Hills' oldest and most fun traditions. Each grade comes together to design and build a float to be a part of our Homecoming Parade that will take place at the school on Friday October 20th.

Each grade will need a family to volunteer their house to host float building. The float building house needs to be within walking distance of the school so all students are able to participate, and have ample driveway/yard space to house the float. If you are interested in hosting please reach out to Pierce Bauer, Float Building Commissioner (and DHHS Alumn & Teacher), and he will provide you with all the needed information.

Once we have our host families locked in, we will send out sign-ups to volunteer to chaperone and donate supplies, snacks, and meals.

Please encourage your kids to get involved with float building. It is a unique, one-of-a-kind tradition to Druid Hills and offers a great opportunity for students to come together, so the more students we get to participate the better.

If you are interested in hosting or have any questions, please reach out to Pierce Bauer at pierson_bauer@dekalbschoolsga.org.

Dual Enrollment for Spring 2024 - Deadline October 15th

The deadline for dual enrollment is approaching. If you are interested in taking dual enrollment classes next semester, please follow the steps below.

Note: If you are currently taking dual enrollment courses this semester, skip to step 3, unless you are changing schools (colleges).

Step 1: Apply to the college of your choice. Here is a list of participating colleges.

Step 2: Fill out the Funding Application on GA Futures

Step 3: Find the course(s) you would like to take and fill out the SPRING 2024 form so that they can be approved for payment.

Step 4: Once you’ve been admitted into the college, register for the course(s) with the college. Filling out the form does not register you for the classes, it just approves the classes for payment. If you make ANY changes to your requested course list, let your counselor know.

Druid Hills’ Deadlines:
Fall & Summer: March 15th
Spring: October 15th

*If you have taken classes in the summer or fall, you can skip this step
