Helping Our Neighbors in a Time of Crisis

Our hearts go out to the families recently affected by the devastating fire in East Ridge. In a single night, many lost not only their belongings but the comfort and safety of home. The impact on the community has been heavy and deeply felt.

Because our thrift store is located in the neighborhood, we were able to respond quickly. As soon as we learned what had happened, our team created vouchers for those displaced so they could receive clothing, shoes, bags, coats, jackets, and other essentials at no cost. We also shared a list of local resources and provided our referral form for admissions for anyone who may now be experiencing homelessness.

These steps are small compared to what many are facing, but we hope they bring warmth, comfort, and a sense of support during an incredibly difficult time.

To everyone impacted, you are not alone. We are here, and we will stand with you as you begin to rebuild.

Empowering Kids Through Choice This Halloween

Thanks to a special grant, every child at CRITI had the chance to pick out their very own Halloween costume this year.

Instead of relying only on donated items, each mother received a gift card so their child could select a costume that felt fun, empowering, and true to who they are. The experience opened up endless possibilities and the pure joy on their faces was unforgettable. CRITI kiddos explored self-expression and independence in a way that made the celebration even more meaningful.

Moments like these remind us that small opportunities to make choices can spark confidence, creativity, and lasting happiness. These are the moments that stay with children and strengthen their sense of self.

Discovering Strength and Joy in Gymnastics

One of the CRITI kiddos began her time in Child Enrichment feeling very shy, often choosing to watch from the sidelines. That changed the day she attended her first gymnastics class with Freely Move. With gentle encouragement from Mrs. Heather, she decided to give it a try and quickly discovered a natural talent.

By the end of her very first class, she had mastered a handstand and could not wait to show her mom. Watching her step out of her comfort zone and shine with confidence was a powerful reminder of how meaningful new experiences can be for children.

"It's amazing how much easier everything is when your basic needs are taken care of. I would spend my day just worrying about where I will sleep tonight, where I can get food tonight. I couldn't focus on getting a job because I was always worried and obsessed about it. Since being here one week, I have had two interviews."

This is the real impact of CRITI. When women and children have a safe place to eat, sleep, and feel supported, they can focus on building a future. Just one week in our program gave this resident the space to breathe, plan, and take steps toward independence.

Through our tutoring program, I get to see much more than improved grades. I see confidence, determination, and pride growing in each child.

One student in particular reminds me why this work matters. He began the year struggling in math and needed to raise his grade to stay on the football team. With hard work and consistent tutoring, he moved from an F to a B. After football season, he shared that keeping his grades up felt easy now, and he even tried out for the basketball team and made it.

Moments like these show how much can change when children have the support and encouragement they need to believe in themselves.

Supporting Residents Every Step of the Way

Graduating from our program is a major milestone. It represents personal growth for residents and the achievement of a permanent place to call their own.

Our Chattanooga Room in the Inn Thrift Store Voucher Program helps graduates take that first step with confidence. Vouchers provide household essentials and clothing, giving them a fresh start in their new home.

The thrift store also supports current residents by providing clothing and essentials free of charge as they continue their journey. Every purchase at the store helps fund these programs and others like them, helping our community build a stronger foundation for the future.
