Executive Director's Corner

Dear Friends,

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Funhouse Commons, and we couldn’t be more excited!

As part of this milestone celebration, we’re thrilled to launch our initiative to raise the MAST for Music, Art, Science, and Technology.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve already raised $48,586 toward our goal of $75,000. If you’ve contributed, thank you so much for your support—it means the world to us!

Now, with just two weeks to go, we’re reaching out to ask for your help in pushing us over the finish line.

Together, we can make this dream a reality. Let’s celebrate what makes our community so extraordinary!

It takes a Village, and the Funhouse!

With gratitude,

Ryan Carpenter

Executive Director

Our Mentor Showcase was amazing!

The community gathered at the Funhouse to celebrate the work that our mentees and mentors have put into their time together! Our skills-based mentor program matches artists and skilled tradespeople in the community with middle or high school youth to work on something that will be shared at our culminating showcase!

Our youth and mentors showed off ceramics, handmade stuffed animals, linoleum block prints, recorded original music, wood creations, and character/story building. This community is overflowing with talent and genuine connections! Special thanks to the San Juan County Arts Council for their continued support for this program.

News from the Peach Pit

Meet our Peach Pit staff! As you can see in the photo, the majority of our team are youth, who are stepping up as leaders to shape and run the Peach Pit. These dedicated young individuals are busy working on a variety of tasks, from building our website to designing furniture, consulting with community stakeholders to ensure the space is inclusive, and adding elements of leisure to our interior design. This photo was taken during a recent staff retreat at Family Tides Farm, where the team came together for a full day of collaboration and inspiration.

Building Update:

If you’ve recently driven down A Street, you’ve no doubt noticed the incredible transformation of the 274 building’s exterior. A big shout-out to the WestCorp Construction team for powering through wind and rain to keep this project moving forward. The results are already impressive, and we’re thrilled to hear the community is just as excited about the progress!

Music at the Funhouse

2024 was a wonderful flagship year for Songlab!
We had two sessions— a Summer and a Fall program— that both resulted in great tunes and great fun had. From recording the sound of a bean bag chair falling at an incredible height to use in a beat, to writing profound and inspiring lyrics of hope, we experimented and produced great music.
The songs from the Summer session are uploaded here, and the Fall songs are soon to follow.
We are excited to see what sort of heartfelt, funky, or just plain silly creations the new year will bring!

We are now accepting Kindergarten students to our Afterschool program!
