Everybody Uses Apps
Apps for our smart devices have increasingly become an integral part of our lives. Whether keeping track of your fitness, updating your social media on-the-go, or playing one of the thousands of addicting games, apps are what gives a smart device its value.

However, all app s are collecting mass amounts of information, of which we are c o nsenting to once we use them.
Consent to Sell Your Info
For example, many of the apps allow you to connect with your social media accounts, making it easier to remember sign-in information, or compete with your friends and share statistics and scores.

What most people do not recognize is that by allowing that app access to your account, they are able to collect your information and sell it to various marketers, all of which you have given consent to.
Minimize Your Footprint
Apps collecting personal information will not be enough for most to stop using them, however, it is important to be aware of what information is being collected, and how it may be used.

A new website has been launched called accessmyinfo.org which gives Canadian consumers an opportunity to submit a request form to the privacy officers of each app that they use, which assists with understanding the type of information being collected, and where it goes.

You can limit the amount of information collected by apps by changing your smart device settings for each one.  It also helps to k eep personal information to minimum on all social media accounts that you connect to through apps.
