A TUTORING TIP | From the University Academic Support Office

In an effort to increase availability of services and reach more students, the University Academic Support Office (UAS) has created a new consultant (tutor) request form. This form can be accessed from any smart device using the QR code or through the direct link in the lower portion of this email. In addition to offering in-person sessions in the Murphy Center, appointments can be scheduled for the Gilmor, PAL and Heminger Center or through our online services. This allows more flexibility and increases access to all our students whether on campus or online.

Any student requesting academic support must complete the online request form. Use of this form helps to ensure prompt responses to requests for assistance and tracking. When a request is received, the UAS will confirm the request in 48 hours or less with some delays for holidays and closures. We will then work to connect an academic consultant with the student as quickly as possible. For entry-level and CORE courses, this is usually completed in 3-4 days. For other courses that are upper division or offered irregularly, or for courses that are new, this can take more time.

A few tips to assist with the process:

1. Students should make sure their information is correct. An incorrect phone number or email will delay response.

2. Where possible, texts will be used to improve the communication process. Cell numbers that can receive texts are recommended.

3. Up to two courses may be requested on the same form. For more than two courses an additional form would be required.

4. Appointments are available in multiple locations and online. Students should select all options that work for them.

5. The greater availability that a student can provide increases our chances of filling requests. Please provide as many days/times as possible. (The times requested may not overlap class times).

STAFF SPOTLIGHT SERIES | Peter Cleveland

We recently chatted with Peter Cleveland, AVI Foodsystems’ Resident Director and on- campus liaison for TU and the Wall Street Pub, about the many hats he wears and ways he helps to keep campus running through his professional roles.

What is your academic and professional background?

“I have been in contract foodservice for the past 30 years, and have been a manager for 26 of those years.”

How long have you been employed through TU?

“I have been at Tiffin University for the past four and a half years.”

What do you love most about TU?

“As an employee on campus, I’ve come to love those whom I see every day - the people who

make up our community from staff, faculty, administrators to students. I value the people who contribute to TU’s family-like environment. Also, as the parent of a student who graduated from TU last May, I love how I have been able to see these same people model the growth, maturity and skills he will need to be successful in his life to come!”

In your eyes, what is one thing that makes our University unique?

“The friendly atmosphere and the people who show up each day to make it so friendly.”

How do you stay involved in our campus culture in addition to your official job

responsibilities (attending football games, choir concerts, guest lectures, etc.)?

“My job gives me the rare opportunity to see the TU community from a truly different

perspective. It allows me to be more than just the Food Guy. I get to participate in almost every event that takes place in some form or another, and the daily interactions I have with students is probably the highlight for me.”

GIVING IS GOOD | Employee Donation Numbers

Each year, employees have the opportunity to support Tiffin University's mission and students through your personal philanthropy. This is an important cause. Why? Because your donations go to scholarships, emergency funds for our students, the annual fund, athletic teams and more.

Tiffin University also applies for several grants and gifts from corporations and foundations each year. Many funding sources request information about the percentage of campus family giving; this is a vital piece of information. That’s why gifts of all sizes are important - it is about the support for the University. Supporters want to know that the people who know us best (our campus family) support the University and its mission. All your gifts, added together, do amazing things for our students.

Currently, our participation rate for staff and faculty is 61.18%
