My School, My Voice-NEA activists are gathering information about ESSA implementation in your local school district. Please take a moment to complete a short survey regarding ESSA in your school. This information will be shared back to the activists in your local association. You can complete the survey as an educator where you are employed and again as a parent or community member in your home school district. Your voice is important -are your students overtested, lacking school nurses and counselors, fine arts programs or all-day kindergarten? Help activists identify the needs in the schools where you teach and where you live--for all our kids!

Why elect delegates?
When locals elect delegates, the voice of their membership can be heard at the district (ECOEA) and state (OEA) level. Delegates vote on district and state level officers, approve the budget, legislative platform and changes to constitution and bylaws. Delegates participate with other members from around the district and state to propose and debate New Business Items that affect you, your job and your students. Representative Assemblies provide leadership opportunities for members. This is why local associations hold an annual election of delegates and send them to participate in RAs. Is your local providing a way for your voice to be heard?
This year two locals,
East Holmes TA and the Education Association of Orrville, applied for the
ECOEA Representative Assembly Incentive Grant of $250 to offset the cost of sending members to RAs in Canton and Columbus. This grant is open to all locals who have not elected and sent delegates within the past five years. One of the criteria for locals to apply for ECOEA Public Relations Grants and Internal Organizing Grants is the election of delegates. We encourage all locals to participate in the democratic process of the Representative Assembly.
ECOEA delegates will attend the
OEA Spring Representative Assembly in Columbus, May 10-11, 2019. Delegates will vote on the following positions:
OEA President-
- Scott DiMauro (Worthington EA)
