The Sustainable Facilities & Operations Branch works across the Department to track, report, and implement the State's sustainability goals in energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, and waste diversion within our building portfolio.

Recycling & Waste Reduction

We are working to divert 50-75% of waste generated in our buildings and projects.

Renewable Energy Generation

Caltrans generates nearly 5 million kilowatt hours of onsite renewable energy each year! 

Water Conservation & Efficiency

Fun fact: Since 2010, Caltrans has reduced overall water usage by more than 65%.

The Transportation Electrification Branch supports the State’s transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) which helps reduce tailpipe and greenhouse gas emissions.

Caltrans Fleet Electrification

Public Electric Vehicle Charging

There are 54 public Caltrans-operated fast EV chargers at our facilities across the state, such as Safety Roadside Rest Areas, District Offices, and Park & Rides.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Vehicle Electrification

Caltrans supports medium- and heavy-duty ZEV infrastructure through programs like the SB 1 Trade Corridor Enhancement Program (TCEP).
