April, 2017
The East PTO Digest is a monthly recap of all the great activities, events, and initiatives the PTO sponsors - thanks to your Annual Appeal contributions.  A big thank you to PTO volunteers Brianne Jarvis and Heidi Collins and all of the amazing Enrichment volunteers who made this month's events a success .   Special thanks to Sean O'Hara and Deirdre Anderson for their contributions to this month's edition.  We hope you enjoy it!

Super SON Day
On April 9, East School boys got to spend an afternoon with their favorite girl building and erupting their very own volcano!! Each group built their own safe, nontoxic volcano with items easily found around the house and went home with a framed picture as a nice memory from the day.

Visit from Meteorologist Michael Page
Third graders at East had a visit from special guest Meteorologist Michael Page, who started observing and forecasting the weather at a young age in his hometown of Hingham while attending middle school, and operated his own weather website right through high school.
Presentation by Sheryl Faye - Historical Performer
Historical Performer Sheryl Faye visited the Third grade at East and presented her one-woman show about Amelia Earhart.
Birds of Prey
First graders enjoyed a visit from Marla Isaac, a naturalist and falconer,  who shared her rescued and rehabilitated birds to teach children about their biology, physiology, and function in the ecosystem.
Getting To Know . . .
Sean O'Hara (Head Custodian)
Q:  What do you enjoy most about your job?
A:   What I enjoy most about my job is being able to work with great people who are friendly, supportive and invested in what they are doing here everyday. I also appreciate how the kids have a way of lightening the day with smiles and high fives.

Q:  If you weren't Head Custodian at East School, what would you like to be doing?
A:   If I were not Head Custodian at East I would like to be involved in real estate investments. Researching these opportunities is pretty interesting to me and I think could make for a challenging and fun career.

Q:   What is your favorite movie?
A:    My favorite movie would have to be Anchorman starring Will Ferrell. But I wouldn't pass up much with Will Ferrell.

Q:  What is your favorite childhood memory?

A:   My favorite childhood memory is going to a Red Sox game with my dad. We would always get there early to try and get some autographs and sit in the same seats every year. I can still remember exactly where they are.
