NOTEWORTHY NEWS

Project SCOPE Middle School

Project SCOPE officially made its way to 7th grade this past quarter with our expanded Middle School program.

The FMA has reached more than 500 seventh grade students at Old Mill North Middle School and Meade Middle School. During the presentations, students are equipped with the tools and inspiration necessary to make informed career decisions, demonstrate core values like trustworthiness and reliability, embrace a growth mindset, and develop essential habits for success in middle school.

Tech Mania targets younger students in the Fort Meade area

The Fort Meade Alliance held its inaugural Elementary and Middle School Tech Mania on March 18 at the newly renovated Meade High School.

Nearly 120 fifth and sixth grade students from Manor View, Meade Heights and Brock Bridge Elementary Schools and MacArthur and Meade Middle Schools visited their future high school for an afternoon of hands-on STEM-related learning.

Women in STEM inspire students

Last month, 75 students from South River and North County High Schools heard from impressive female industry leaders during panel discussions designed to inspire and connect the next generation of female leaders in the industry.

The students learned about the importance of breaking barriers, overcoming discrimination in the workplace, and embracing the confidence to excel in STEM fields. The panels emphasized how women in STEM can overcome challenges and serve as powerful role models inspiring the next generation to push boundaries and pursue their passions.

Young Professionals offered variety of opportunities this spring

The Fort Meade Alliance’s NextGen Leaders group is in the midst of a busy spring schedule with a wide array of networking and professional development events catering to its vastly growing group.

NextGen Leaders, which is tailored specifically for professionals aged 40 and younger from FMA member companies, has seen significant growth since its revitalization last fall. With more than 80 active members, NextGen Leaders aims to serve as a dynamic hub for the next generation of professionals in the Fort Meade area.

Dinner, dessert & mocktails

The FMA has cooked up a twist on one of its popular initiatives.

On February 25, the FMA Family Cooking Class Program expanded to its first adults-only cooking class for attendees ages 18 and older. The class, in partnership with Healthy Little Cooks and sponsored by Nexxis Solutions, included a healthy vegetable pasta dinner and cinnamon popcorn dessert, plus a mocktail competition.

Career Transition Program seeking employer participation

The Fort Meade Alliance is seeking employers for our Career Transition Program Hiring Event on May 8 from 9am to 3pm at Live! Casino & Hotel. This unique event, which in partnership with Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corp. and Howard County Workforce Development, will facilitate meaningful connections between employers and the military community.

We have recently expanded the scope of eligible job seekers for the program beyond transitioning military members, their spouses, and recently separated service members. The program now also includes Federal Civilian employees with TS/SCI clearances—both those currently employed and those who have recently separated from their civilian roles.
