New initiatives aim to improve military spouse employment | | |

Despite their above-average education levels and range of marketable skills, military spouses experience some of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Now, members of the Fort Meade Community are redoubling efforts to ease the challenges around military spouse employment.
“Col. Yolanda Gore, the new Fort Meade Garrison Commander, has made military spouse employment a No.1 priority for the community and the garrison,” said Doreen Harwood, Chair of the FMA Education and Workforce Committee.

Project SCOPE program expands to local middle schools | | |
|
Project SCOPE, the Fort Meade Alliance’s Security Clearance Overview and Preparation Education program, started off the 2024-2025 school year strong with presentations at Severna Park High School, Old Mill High School and Glen Burnie High School. So far this year, 280 students have learned about the benefits of a security clearance and how they can set themselves up for success in the security clearance process.

This fall, FMA members Brandon Tipton of Lockheed Martin, Antoine Roseman of RACTSOL Corp., Brooks Schilling of Culper Technology, Terry Dickerson of AWS, Taylan Brooks of the National Security Agency and Eric Thomas and Amanda Horne of MasterPeace Solutions shared their experiences with the security clearance process with students, giving them an inside look at the types of cleared careers that might be available to them in the future. |

Tech Mania showcases latest in STEM innovation | | |

Over 100 high school students from Howard and Carroll County Public Schools experienced the technologies at work in the Fort Meade Region at the annual Fall Tech Mania event on Friday, November 8.
Hosted by Howard Community College, the event brought together students from Hammond, Long Reach, Wilde Lake, Oakland Mills, and Century High Schools for an exciting day of hands-on tech demonstrations with FMA member companies.

The FMA NextGen Leaders hosted its first Pathway to Success panel series with a focus on Cybersecurity and the panelists’ career journeys. The event included a unique networking and a panel Q&A with Doug Jeruzal, RealmOne; Melissa McCoy, Kaizen Approach, Inc., Erica Dobbs, Dobbs Defense Solutions and Dawn Young-Bermudez, Intelliforce-IT Solutions Group, LLC. The panel was moderated by NextGen Leaders Committee Chair, Brittainy White of RealmOne.

Joint Venture and Mentor Protégé Seminar -

TThe Meade Business Connect hosted the Joint Venture (JV) and Mentor Protégé (MP) Seminar. The seminar was moderated by Paul Gentile, Panther, LLC and Bill Dunahoo, Nexxis Solutions, covering topics such as when and why you should form a JV / MP, proposal preparation, program execution and MPO’s position as it pertains to JVs / MPs.
