Need to Know---CAP Month Celebration!

Child Abuse Prevention Month 2023

Our theme this year was Partnering to Prevent Child Abuse: Building a Brighter Future. We are lucky to work in a community where different organizations partner to help keep children safe. A few of the partnerships highlighted during the month are listed below (and by no means includes all the agencies and individuals who play a role in supporting families).

Family Resource Center: In-home parent education and support to families

Harbin Clinic: Pediatricians address child health care needs/wellness

Rome/Floyd County Commission on Children & Youth: Community education and training

Sexual Assault Center: Education to prevent sexual abuse/violence

Hospitality House: Education to youth and community to prevent family violence

Harbor House: Community education to prevent child sexual abuse

Scroll down to see a few pictures and note that it's not too late to join "The Walk" on April 28th hosted by SAC and Harbor House. Help close out the month---simply meet at noon in front of City Hall.

Any time is the right time to think about child abuse prevention in our community.

FRC Board member Lee Niedrach was honored as our 2023 Katie Dempsey Star volunteer Award recipient.

Lee has served on the Board since 2014, holding all officer positions and serving on most all committees.

His nominator had this to say: "Lee has demonstrated himself as faithful and it is that faihfulness that has helped the FRC stay strong and steady."

The Family Resource Center was present at the Polk Family Connection Collaboration meeting and also attended several Rome Community Fairs. It was good to spread the word about our work with families.

Agencies were treated to lunch from The Rome/Floyd County Commission on Children & Youth on April 28th.

The group talked about "The Big Picture of Child Well-Being". The care and passion for serving families was contagious!

Good to Know---A Success Story

The Power of Education

One of the moms we serve has had a lot to say about her education recently. She wants to pursue her GED so that she can better provide for her family. However, she felt really intimidated about the enrollment process. Her Parent Aide listened, and they went TOGETHER to visit GNTC's GED Program.

We are proud to report that this mom is now registered for classes and doing the prep she needs to take her GED! There's nothing like having a partner!
