CSA Collaborates with Change the Story
Last summer, CSA staff Adriana Romero and Sarah Townsend-Handley collaborated with the Changemaker Initiative’s Change the Story Program to create a three-part project.
We kicked things off in June with a Cafecito: a cozy, intimate gathering where community members shared their concerns and needs in light of recent immigration policy changes. Thanks to our partnership with the Day Worker Center, we welcomed their clients and ours into this important conversation.
In July, we turned those insights into action by hosting a Resource Fair “De Aquí y de Allá” tailored to the community’s needs. With the help of Siren, we offered a Know Your Rights training, as well as community organizations tabling and sharing resources, then followed by delicious food from Simply Sabor and live music by IndiviDúo.
Lastly in August, we wrapped up the initiative with a powerful Family Preparedness Plan workshop, also in collaboration with Siren, helping families feel more secure and informed in the event of a family member’s arrest.
What we’ve learned this summer is simple but profound: our community is craving safe, welcoming spaces, where families can come together to learn, grow, and support one another. We look forward to continuing this work and are grateful to the Changemaker Initiative for this amazing opportunity!
