Top Needs & Ways to Help

Today is officially the first day of Fall. Although the weather outside may not convince us of the changing season, there IS excitement in the air about our upcoming 40th Birthday celebration and 12th Annual Chili Cook-Off, both at the end of October. I hope to see you at one or both of these events, as events at Casa de Esperanza are a special time to reflect, celebrate, and come together to support children and families in crisis in our community.
This time last year, Casa de Esperanza was just opening its gates to visitors and volunteers after many months of lockdowns due to Covid. At the time, I noted that there was simply something magical about Casa's mission and the way the community rallies around our efforts to end the cycle of abuse and neglect for the most vulnerable children. Those of us who are committed to protecting the least among us are being challenged as never before, yet that "magic" continues thanks to the tireless efforts of Casa's staff, boards, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
Thank you for all you do to ensure Casa is here for families year after year. I always welcome your emails to me with any questions you have or to schedule a visit.
Sincerely,

Spirit Of Service Award Nominations Open
|
|
We are now accepting nominations for the Kathy Foster Spirit of Service Award! This award was introduced at the 2022 Gala as a way to honor those who have served in a house parent role with Casa de Esperanza and who embody the values and legacy of founder Kathy Foster. Kathy worked tirelessly to develop a program to serve the needs of children age birth through six who were in crisis and championed the possibility of a brighter future for their families.
The honoree should serve as a role model for compassion and service and have continued to serve others since leaving the House Parent role at Casa de Esperanza. Please click here to submit a quick nomination. Nominations must be submitted by November 15, 2022.

Give Children Hope, Become A Foster Parent
|
|
"Knowing that for just a few days... or a few months that an infant or toddler in our care is fed, held and loved, makes them leaving a little easier. We look forward to the impact we get to make in the lives of children who deserve nothing less than to know their worth and how much they are loved."
Our Foster Parents provide temporary care for children ages newborn to six years old while our case workers simultaneously partner with the birth parents to secure a safe, healthy and permanent environment for their children to thrive. Casa's experienced and compassionate staff provide on-going training and unique 24/7 support to all of our Foster Families. Our team is ready to talk to you about the variety of ways you can begin your foster parent journey with Casa de Esperanza. Whether living in Casa de Esperanza's neighborhood or with your family in your own home, we can help you navigate what may be the best fit for your situation. Call us to learn more today!

40 Stories over 40 Years: Luke's Story
|
|
"In December 2004, I received a call from CPS. They asked if I would be willing to accept the placement of a boy with failure to thrive. That evening I met one of the most beautiful children in the world. Although on the day he arrived, it was not his physical beauty that overwhelmed us but the condition of his body that touched and broke our heart. Luke was 5 months old and only weighed 7 pounds despite his 6 pounds and 13 oz birth weight. You could see every bone in his body. He continued to struggle in health and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Even at three years old, he weighed 23 pounds and 11 oz. Yes, we counted every ounce he gained.
Luke touches every person whose path he crosses with his strength to fight and never give up. He communicates without words. People often ask will he ever learn to walk or talk and my response is "God only knows." When asked that question of Luke’s neurologist, she said “I cannot answer that question for you, Luke’s MRI would suggest that he could not do the things he is doing today. I will not ever tell you Luke cannot do anything - he continues to amaze us.” Luke has taught all who know him that anything is possible with a smile on your face and love in your heart.
Today Luke is 18 years old, a senior in high school and is learning to use a computer to communicate. He is a wonderful uncle to his nephews and he continues to be a teacher. He teaches us to appreciate whatever life throws our way. He had two very scary hospital stays this past year but he is still one of the happiest people in the world. His laugh and smile are worth a million dollars. He has been one of the greatest gifts God and Casa ever gave me. God knew we all needed Luke even before we knew ourselves.”
