Lighting Up the United States Botanic Garden This Holiday Season

We are thrilled to announce our work for the United States Botanic Garden (USBG) to create a stunning holiday light display! Our team will enhance the garden's beauty with festive and elegant uplighting, transforming the outdoor spaces into a magical evening spectacle.

Key features like the majestic Styrax and Juniper trees will be highlighted, alongside twinkling lights in the Pollinator Garden and around the Bartholdi Fountain. Each lighting element aims to showcase the garden's natural beauty, ensuring a joyful experience for visitors.

About the USBG Holiday Show

Celebrate the season at the Botanic Garden’s annual holiday display! Running from November 28 through January 5, this event features beautifully illuminated gardens and festive installations indoors and out. Wander through enchanting pathways and discover dazzling landscapes adorned with holiday lights.

The USBG has long been a haven for nature lovers, and this show adds new wonder to its charm. We can't wait to share photos of the final display!

a collaboration of light and design

Outdoor Illumination is proud to have played a key role in transforming the Spring Mill House in Virginia. Robert M. Gurney, FAIA, designed this stunning, modern, eco-friendly escape. The project was featured in the fall edition of Home & Design Magazine, showcasing the harmonious blend of architecture, landscape, and carefully crafted lighting that brings the property to life.

This amazing property features charred Shou Sugi Ban siding, a Corten steel-clad owners suite – and a sunken volleyball court!. The lighting design compliments the diverse natural elements intended to blend seamlessly into its stunning environment – including a dramatic stream flowing through the perimeter of the property and inviting spaces including a fire pit.

Collaborating with a team of professionals was a highlight of the project. Each partner brought unique expertise, transforming the property into a beautifully cohesive and meticulously designed space. We were thrilled to contribute our lighting design, enhancing the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the environment.

a bright new chapter

After 19 wonderful years with Outdoor Illumination, Barbara Kulp is retiring. She has been more than just a colleague; she's a vital part of our OI family. Her design skills, project management expertise, and warm personality have left a lasting impact on us all.

Barbara reflected, “Working here has been my favorite career, thanks to my amazing colleagues and clients. While I’m excited for travel, classes, and some gardening, I will miss you all and hope to stay connected.”

Thank you, Barbara, for your dedication and friendship. We wish you all the best in this new chapter of adventures, including tea time in Madeira and a visit to Tralee Town Park in Ireland! ☕🍀

fall vibes & team ties

We had a fantastic day at our fall employee picnic, enjoying great food, laughs, and even some furry friends! As usual, the annual feast was grilled to perfection by our Lighting Operations Manager, Jhonny Castedo, with help from his wonderful wife, Elizabeth. It was the perfect way to celebrate the season and show appreciation for our hardworking team. Here’s to more gatherings, good times, and a bright season ahead!
