Happy 2023! We hope that your holidays were peaceful and happy. The holiday season was busy here at Family Promise of Essex County thanks to the generosity and kindness of our volunteers and supporters. Captured below are a sample of some festive, December highlights. Thank you to everyone who donated gifts, food or contributed in whatever way they were able to, in order to make the holidays brighter for the families that we serve.

FPE Families Celebrating the Holidays Together

Livingston Knights of Columbus and Livingston Kiwanis Club Crafts, fun, presents and photos with Santa thanks to the Livingston Kiwanis Club and Livingston Knights of Columbus hosting this special day filled with holiday joy for FPE families.

Family Promise of Essex County Holiday Party The FPE Holiday Party was held at Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair. Thanks to the many organizations and individuals who contributed, the event was a great success and brought smiles to many families that FPE serves.

Holiday In-Kind Donations

Longtime supporter, Karen Diehl, and her family, once again fulfill a holiday wish list for one of the larger families served by FPE. Girl Scout Troop 20375 from Bloomfield put together dozens of personal hygiene kits for families and also delivered beautiful, handmade holiday cards.

Jack & Jill of America, North Jersey Chapter dropped off carloads of holiday gifts organized by members and the their children (ages 6-7).

The students of Le Petit Academy of Maplewood and their parents delivered wagons of holiday gifts.

Parent Coordinator, Mara Weinstein delivered over $700 in gift cards donated and decorated by the students of Shomrei Emunah Preschool in Montclair

HUMI Challenge Grant - Matching $20,000

In 2021, Help Us Move In (HUMI) awarded Family Promise of Essex a Homeless No More Challenge Grant. This HUMI grant funds FPE's Homelessness Prevention Program to ensure that our families stay housed or are quickly transitioned into housing before they face homelessness.  FPE is in our second year of meeting this Challenge Grant, with the goal of helping children and families facing eviction or prohibitive move-in costs from homelessness. Since November 2021, 84 children from 45 households have been served by this program. It takes less than $600 to keep a child safely housed and out of shelter. Young volunteers making a difference!

Livingston High School Student, Erika Massiani, organized a holiday Toy Drive that she coordinated with her church, Wyoming Presbyterian. She also received many donations from St. Philomena's Church in Livingston, the North NJ Chapter of the National Charity League, as well as many family members and friends from around the country. We asked Erika what inspired her to organize this Toy Drive and give back to Family Promise and the community: Through a family friend that is a part of Family Promise, I heard about all the amazing work they do and opportunities they have for those in need, so I immediately decided that I wanted to get involved! I am so happy that I was able to collect and donate gifts for their Holiday Party, and hope that they brought lots of holiday joy and spirit!
